Abstract: A communication device in a communication network includes at least one processor. The processor is configured to identify a first management information base (MIB) of a first occupied channel in the communication network, and a second MIB of a second occupied channel in the communication network adjacent the first occupied channel. The second occupied channel occupies a frequency band overlapping with an interfering signal band. The processor is further configured to calculate at least one proactive network maintenance (PNM) metric for each of the first and second MIB, and determine, from the calculated PNM metric, that an ingress of the interfering signal is detected on the second occupied channel.

Abstract: Detecting PIM in a downstream signal, wherein the downstream signal is received from a cable plant via a subscriber network and an upstream signal is transmitted to the cable plant via the subscriber network. The upstream signal is transmitted in bursts during active intervals. PIM arises from an interaction between the upstream signal and a nonlinear component in the subscriber network and occurs in bursts corresponding to the upstream signal. The detection steps are: (a) identifying the potentially affected downstream signal from the upstream signal; (b) receiving the downstream signal during an active interval; (c) measuring a metric of the downstream signal to obtain an active value; (d) receiving the downstream signal during a quiet interval; (e) measuring the metric of the downstream signal to obtain a quiet value; (f) comparing active and quiet values; and (g) determining whether PIM distortion has been detected based on the comparison.

Abstract: Systems and methods presented herein provide for improved duplex communications in an RF cable network comprising a plurality of CMs. In one embodiment, a system includes a CMTS operable to transmit downstream communications to the CMs and to process upstream communications from the CMs. The system also includes a duplex RF communication path between the CMTS and the CMs. The CMTS is further operable to transmit a control signal that directs a first of the CMs to transmit, to direct the remaining CMs to receive the transmission from the first CM, to direct the CMs to report received power levels of the transmission from the first CM, and to calculate RF isolations of the remaining CMs with respect to the first CM based on the reported power levels.

Abstract: Control of a digital communication system having a plurality of communication lines on which signals are transmitted and received is implemented using a variety of methods and systems. According to one embodiment of the present invention, a method is implemented where the signals are affected by interference during transmission and each of the communication lines has at least one transmitter and at least one receiver. A model is created of the interference characteristics due to the signals carried on the communication lines. Interference characteristics for a line are determined based on the model and actual signals carried on other communication lines different from the line for which the characteristics are being determined. Actual interference is compensated for on the communication line using the determined interference characteristics.
