Abstract: A motor drive system and method for determining an optimized efficiency of the motor drive system are provided. The motor drive system includes a system controller, a motor drive having includes an inverter configured to generate the AC power upon one or more motor leads, and an electric motor, which is to convert the AC power from the motor leads to rotational energy. A dynamometer may include a load coupled to the shaft and sensors to measure to measure operating characteristics such as torque and speed of the electric motor. The system controller is configured to generate a lookup table, with an entry describing an output current command for operating the inverter and the motor at a maximum system efficiency for a given combination rotational speed and output torque. Motor temperature may also be measured and used as an additional index into the lookup table.

Abstract: A method of controlling a brushless permanent magnet motor having a plurality of phase windings and an inverter for applying voltage vectors to the plurality of the phase windings, the method including monitoring phase current flowing through a first phase winding to determine a zero-crossing point of the phase current flowing through the first phase winding. The method includes predicting a polarity of phase current flowing through a second phase winding based on the determined zero-crossing point of the phase current flowing through the first phase winding, and determining a timing of a control signal to control switches of the inverter to apply a voltage vector to the phase windings. The timing of the control signal is determined using the predicted polarity of phase current flowing through the second phase winding.

Abstract: A positioning device (101) for producing a position signal indicative of a rotational position of a resolver is presented. The positioning device comprises a signal interface (102) for receiving alternating signals (V_cos, V_sin) from the resolver and a processing system (103) for generating the position signal based on position-dependent amplitudes of the alternating signals and on polarity information indicative of a polarity of an excitation signal (V_exc) of the resolver. The processing system is configured to recognize a polarity indicator, such as a change of frequency or phase, on a waveform of one or both of the alternating signals and to determine the polarity information based on the recognized polarity indicator. Thus, the polarity information related to the excitation signal is included in the alternating signals and therefore there is no need for a separate signaling channel for transferring the polarity information to the positioning device.

The medium includes instructions that, when loaded and executed by the processor, cause the processor to receive an estimated or sensed speed of a motor, extract a mechanical frequency component from the estimated or sensed speed, transform the mechanical frequency into direct quadrature (DQ) domain at the mechanical frequency, control the mechanical frequency to zero, and generate a dampening signal for torque based upon the controlled mechanical frequency.

According to the present invention, the apparatus (200) for on-line estimation of an initial position of a surface permanent magnet electric machine in a stationary state or at a first is speed is also provided, the apparatus comprising a voltage injection unit configured to inject a high-frequency pulsating voltage signal, a current acquisition unit configured to acquire a d-axis high-frequency current signal responding to the high-frequency pulsating voltage signal, and an analysis unit configured to analyse a second harmonic of the d-axis high-frequency current signal so as to estimate an initial position of the surface permanent magnet electric machine.

Abstract: A current conversion method for an electrical device. The electrical device includes a three-phase electric motor and two three-phase inverters. Each inverter is controlled by modulation of at least six non-zero space vectors or space vector modulation. The output voltage of each inverter is given by a reference space vector. For each inverter, the method includes modulating the space vectors by a space-vectors activation sequence having at least two switching intervals in which three adjacent space vectors are used. A device to convert current and a vehicle implementing the current conversion method are provided.

Abstract: A system for detecting and eliminating harmonic effects in the DQ plane of the non-sinusoidal back EMF voltages is provided. The system is a field oriented controller (FOC) that includes a poly-phase electric machine, proportional-integral-derivative controllers and a microcontroller. The microcontroller not only analyzes a stator current but analyzes a back electromotive force (BEMF) voltages to extract flux vectors of the EMF. These vectors have distortions as a result of the geometries and saturation effects inherent in the electrical machine. Therefore, the microcontroller corrects these defects by transmitting the BEMF vectors and the machine operating points, including the current rotational speed and current, into the algorithm, which in turn develops a command voltage in the DQ frame for the specific operating point. This command voltage is inserted into the control output of the current PI controller so to prevents the non-sinusoidal back EMF voltages from generating non-sinusoidal currents.

Abstract: An electric vehicle includes a motor, an ECU, and an inverter device. A motor control module of the inverter device includes: a parameter map having motor parameters stored therein; an open loop control section to generate control variables in open loop control by a voltage equation using the parameters stored in the parameter map, in response to a torque command from the ECU; a current feedback control section to perform control to eliminate a deviation relative to a command current value generated in an inverter, in response to the torque command from the ECU; and a hybrid control section to control the motor on the basis of control variables which are generated on the basis of the control variables generated by the open loop control section and control variables generated by the current feedback control section.

Abstract: A voltage controller generates a d-axis voltage command value and a q-axis voltage command value on the basis of a drive command signal and a three-phase current. When the state in which the absolute value of the resultant vector of the d-axis voltage command value and the q-axis voltage command value is not within a set predetermined range continues for a predetermined time or longer, a disconnection detector determines that a disconnection between a power converter and an AC motor has occurred. A gate controller transmits a gate command for turning off a switching element provided in the power converter to the power converter when the disconnection detector determines that a disconnection between the power converter and the AC motor has occurred.
