Abstract:
A lamp for automotive front lighting and a vehicle headlight comprising the lamp are described, as well as a method of manufacturing the lamp. The lamp 10 comprises a base 12 for mechanical and electrical connection to an automotive headlight 50. A burner 14 is fixed to the base 12 and comprises an enclosed transparent vessel 22. A first filament 34 is arranged within the vessel 22. A holding wire 30c is arranged within the vessel, and a baffle 40 is arranged proximate to the first filament 34 to partially shield light emitted from the first filament 34. The baffle 40 is fixed to the holding wire 30c. The transparent vessel 22 comprises a vessel wall including a cylindrical portion 24 surrounding the first filament 34. In order to obtain a lamp which may withstand vibration, the vessel wall comprises, within the cylindrical portion 24, a deformed material portion 38 which contacts the baffle 40 or the holding wire 30c. The deformed material portion 38 is shielded from the first filament 34 by the baffle 40. During manufacture, the first filament 34, the baffle 40 and the holding wire 30c are inserted into the vessel 22, and the vessel wall is deformed to provide the deformed material portion 38.
Abstract:
An irradiation device is provided having a housing having an interior chamber and an infrared emitter arranged therein. The infrared emitter has an emitter tube made of high silica content glass having a round cross section and a defined outer diameter. Electrical connection elements are made of a metallic material and led out from the emitter tube through a seal. In order to provide the emitter with a long service life and potentially higher output, which is also suitable for being enclosed by a seal that separates the regions of different media, temperatures, or pressures, the emitter tube end also has a round cross section and the defined outer diameter. Between the electrical connection element and the emitter tube there is a seal containing at least one transition glass, which has a thermal expansion coefficient lying between that of the metallic material and that of the high silica content glass.
Abstract:
A system and method of coating curved substrates and assembling devices having coated elements. The system and method are of particular utility in the manufacture of lamps having a coating formed on the hermetically sealed light emitting chamber of the lamp. The system and method includes, inter alia, an improved uniform coating process and apparatus, improved throughput in the coating process, a reduction in bad coating losses, improved baking processes, and an improved method and apparatus for aligning the filament of a halogen lamp achieved by performing the step of coating of the light emitting chamber prior to the step of sealing the chamber.

Abstract:
An electrical lead assembly for devices such as electrical lamps having a metallic foil for providing an electrically conducting path through a hermetic seal formed by pinch sealing a vitreous material. The metallic foil includes an oxidation-inhibiting coating of silica. In another aspect of the invention, methods of coating metallic foils with silica are disclosed. In yet another aspect of the present invention, an electrical lead assembly for lamps is provided wherein the metallic foil is extended to form an outer electrical lead for the lamp.
Abstract:
An incandescent halogen lamp used in connection with a vehicle headlamp system in which stray light attributable to reflection off of internal lamp components is reduced while the structural integrity of the lamp is maintained. The halogen lamp includes two filaments, several lead wires, and a support bridge all sealed within a glass envelope. Each filament is connected at its outermost end to a flattened end portion of a lead wire which extends along the length of the filament from near the support bridge to the upper end of the filament. The flattened outer ends of the lead wires have a narrow profile that is in alignment with the direction of illumination of light from their respective filaments. This arrangement reduces the surface area that could otherwise interfere with light emitted by the filaments, and thereby reduces the overall stray light produced by the lamp. The flattened outer ends can have a roughened surface to further help reduce the amount of light reflected off the lead wires.
Abstract:
A method of fabricating a filamented capsule from a tubular blank, and a mold used in such fabrication, is provided wherein a first filament is sealed in a first press seal in one end of the blank, and a preform designed to facilitate insertion and positioning of a second filament is formed in an opposite end of the blank, in a single pressing and blowing step.
Abstract:
The Solder Sealed Light Bulb utilizes a solder exhaust port seal and lead seal combination. Solder glass, or metal solder may be used for the seal material. Evacuation is accomplished in a vacuum furnace. The bulb assembly is evacuated thru the openings at the solder plug, the application of heat liquefies the solder, and surface tension causes the openings to close. Upon cooling, a high vacuum seal is obtained.
