摘要： A lamp (10), such as a rapid thermal processing (“RTP) lamp, is sealed with a press seal (30) that contains a fuse (40). A relatively long press seal region is used that accommodates, in addition to the conventional filament leads to the exterior of the lamp, the fuse as well, the fuse (40) being disposed inside an inert-gas filled void (34) which is formed in the press seal (30), the fuse being thus disposed in an inert environment, such as nitrogen. The void (34) is defined by a bubble (36) formed in the press seal. Alternatively, the void (34) can be defined by an inside region of a glass capillary tube (42) that jackets the fuse and is squeezed into the press seal.

摘要： Embodiments of a lamp having an internal fuse system are provided herein. In some embodiments, a lamp may include a transparent housing; a filament disposed in the housing, the filament having a main body disposed between a first end and a second end of the filament; a first conductor coupled to the filament at the first end of the filament; a first interceptor bar disposed in the housing and beneath the main body of the filament, wherein the first interceptor bar is coupled to the second end of the filament; a second conductor disposed proximate the first end of the filament and conductively coupled to the second end of the filament via the first interceptor bar, wherein the first interceptor bar is positioned such that an electrical short forms between the first and second conductors when the main body of the filament contacts the first interceptor bar.

摘要： A lamp has a base and a light-transmitting soft-glass lamp envelope sealed to the base to form a sealed lamp cavity which is filled with a non-oxidizing gas. Current supply leads are connected to the stem feedthroughs and extend into the lamp cavity. A halogen incandescent burner is located in the lamp cavity and has a light-transmitting hard-glass burner envelope which encloses a sealed burner cavity filled with an inert gas containing halogen. The burner envelope has presses at its ends. A tungsten filament coil in the burner has extended legs at its ends that extend out of the burner cavity into the lamp cavity through the burner presses and are connected to the current supply leads in the lamp cavity to act as fuses which open upon breach of the lamp envelope, thus preventing further burner operations.

摘要： A method of making a press sealed lamp with an internally pressed fuse is disclosed. The filament structure is conveniently formed so the fuse links across a looped section of the initial filament structure. The loop structure provides strength to the fused filament structure prior to sealing. After the lamp is sealed, a portion of the exposed loop is trimmed, thereby limiting the remaining electrical connection to the path through the fuse.

摘要： In an incandescent lamp having a glass envelope joined to a base member and a filament mounted within the envelope, an improved fuse wire comprises a portion of one or both of the lead-in wires connecting the filament to the base member. The fuse wire is made of an Aluchrom alloy containing Chromium, Nickel and Iron, or is made of a Cronifer alloy containing Chromium, Iron and Aluminum. The Aluchrom or Cronifer fuse wire, upon lamp failure and fuse burnout, exhibits reduced arcing melt-through of the lamp base compared with lamps having prior art fuse wires, for improved safety thereof.Further the Aluchrom or Chronifer fuse wires have an I.sup.2 t energy rating which permits the use of larger diameter fuse wires which can more readily be processed by lamp production machinery than the smaller diameter lamp fuse wires of prior art materials.
