    摘要: A flasher bulb and method of making same by mass production techniques are disclosed. The flasher bulb has first and second nickel wires connected by a tungsten wire to form a loop and a bimetallic strip one end of which is connected to one of the nickel wires, the strip being bent towards the other nickel wire. When the strip is heated by passage of current through the tungsten wire, it makes contact with the other nickel wire to take the tungsten wire out of circuit but retain current flow through the nickel wires. Accordingly in a string of flasher bulbs, extinction of one bulb will not necessary cut off current to the others. The conductive wires and bimetallic strip are assembled in position in a mold and held in place by an insulating disk.

The conductive strips contacting filament wires of the lamp or electrical conductors of a power line. A handle including a base is pivotably mounted relative to the contact points, and a conductive member operated by the handle, selectively contacts at least one of the contact points. The conductive member is integral with at least a portion of the conductive member and engages a metallic screw-on section of the lamp or electrical conductors of the power line.

    摘要: A lighting system having a high pressure gas discharge light source and an incandescent light source within a common sealed and evacuated bulb. A ballast unit fitted externally to the neck of the bulb includes in series with the incandescent light source an interrupter element and control circuitry therefor, and a choke coil in series with the gas discharge light source.The control circuitry represents an equivalence logic with two variables, wherein the output terminal of an equivalence circuit is connected to the control input of the interrupter element while its input terminal is connected to a voltage divider system connected across the gas discharge light source. The output terminal is energized only if either both or neither of the input terminals of the equivalence circuit are energized. The interrupter element is closed when the output terminal of the equivalence circuit is energized.The lighting system instantly emits light when switched on from the mains and maintains the illumination at an approximately constant level during the cool or cooling down periods of the gas discharge light source following its start, warm up, or re-start after switch off.

    摘要: An improved incandescent light bulb which is capable of affording increased light efficiency without a resultant increase in either cost or energy consumption. In one embodiment of the bulb, said bulb includes a refractory stiff supporting element, at least one elongated helical resistive filament, two terminals which are each capable of being physically and electrically connected to a different socket and an elongated light transmissive envelope. In another embodiment the bulb additionally includes a reflector bonded to the envelope which reflects light and conducts heat away from said envelope. The stiff supporting element is formed to have a hollow interior. In said hollow interior a magnetizable elongated slug and two holding magnets may be contained. The slug and holding magnets cooperate with a switching means in the interior of the envelope to allow the bulb to selectively emit either a bright or a dim light.

    摘要: A lamp for installation in the flashers or winkers of motor vehicles, with a flasher device integrated into the lamp itself, is provided. The flashing is produced, in the case of the invention, by the utilization of substances which exhibit a sudden change in resistivity at a certain temperature. This is the case with powdered V O.sub.2 when formed into an aglomerate by the use of an organic binder. A block assembled in the bulb of the lamp and in electrical parallel with the filament, does not effect the incandescent state of the latter as long as a temperature of 68.degree. C is not exceeded, but effectively short-circuits the filament beyond this temperature. In this fashion, successive extinctions and relightings take place by a process of relaxation. In the case of a C.sub.36 H.sub.74 wax filled with conductive powder, the phenomena are reversed and the block must be connected in series with the filament.
