In this method, the voltage outage load-side is an opening of the circuit breaker, and the circuit breaker is able to interrupt the flow of electric current in an electric connection including an electric conductor. The auxiliary unit comprises a current sensor for measuring the intensity of the current flowing in the electric conductor and a first detection means for detecting the voltage outage load-side from the circuit breaker. The method comprises the following steps: measuring the intensity of the current flowing in the electric conductor, detecting the voltage outage load-side from the electric circuit breaker, determining a cause of the detected voltage outage load-side from the circuit breaker, said cause being selected from the group consisting in: an electric overload, a short-circuit and a voltage drop.

A plug comprises power contacts and a trip jumper having jumper contacts configured to make a trip connection, during a plugging action with the plug and a receptacle, with mating trip contacts in the receptacle. When the receptacle is connected to electrical power during the plugging action, a current over the trip connection can cause disconnection of a receptacle power contact from the power. A receptacle comprises receptacle power contacts and a trip circuit having receptacle trip contacts configured to make a trip connection, during a plugging action with the receptacle and plug, with mating trip contacts in the plug. When the receptacle is connected to electrical power during the plugging action, a current over the trip connection can cause disconnection of power to a receptacle power contact. A system can have an electrical device with a line cord connected to the plug.

A device for sensing the position of a contact carrier of a contact includes a housing, a sensor supported by the housing and a latch that is movable by the contact carrier. The latch has a latch member located in proximity to the sensor and that is generally non-reflective. The sensor is configured to sense a presence or an absence of the latch member at one particular location depending upon the position of the contact carrier. A method of sensing position of a contact carrier of a contact module is also presented.

An alarm output device is capable of outputting a mechanical alarm signal to attached alarm switches in linkage with a tripping operation of a circuit breaker. The alarm output device includes an alarm output plate provided on an outer lateral surface of a frame of an opening/closing mechanical unit and is operable in linkage with a latch of the opening/closing mechanical unit, so that a movement of the alarm output plate is transmitted to the attached alarm switches to perform a switching operation. The alarm output plate is provided with a pair of operation terminal members corresponding to an internal alarm switch and an external alarm switch of the circuit breaker.

A single pole circuit breaker module is constructed so that its housing is provided with frangible sections aligned with the pivot pins for the contact arm, the cradle and the operating mechanism latch. These pins are keyed to the elements mounted thereon and each pin is provided with a formation to engage a complementary formation projecting sideways from an auxiliary feature module. The latter includes one or more auxiliary devices. In the case of an auxiliary switch module, the switch thereof is connected to the contact arm pivot pin so that contact arm motion is transmitted to operate the auxiliary switch thereby indicating whether the circuit breaker is open or closed. In the case of an alarm switch auxiliary module, the switch thereof is connected to the pivot pin for the cradle whereby the tripping of the cradle is effective to operate the alarm switch. In the case of a shunt trip auxiliary module the solenoid operated member thereof is operatively connected to the pivot for the circuit breaker latch whereby actuation of the shunt trip solenoid serves to move the latch to its unlatched position for tripping of the circuit breaker.
