Abstract:
A multipolar electrical protection system including a plurality of devices for switching an electric current. Each switching device has a plurality of compartments each comprising an extinguishing chamber and a pair of separable electrical contacts that are connected to upstream and downstream connection terminals, the separable electrical contacts being movable between open and closed positions under the action of a tripping device. The switching devices are separate from one another, while the upstream terminals of each device are connected by a first connector in order to keep them at one and the same electrical potential and the downstream terminals of each device are connected by a second connector in order to keep them at one and the same electrical potential. The switching devices are controlled by one and the same common tripping device.

A panelboard assembly for a harsh and/or hazardous environment is provided. The panelboard assembly includes a core assembly. The core assembly includes a main breaker assembly configured to be electrically connected to a power supply, and a branch breaker assembly electrically connected to the main breaker assembly and configured to be electrically connected to one or more loads, and a power distribution heatsink assembly. The power distribution heatsink assembly includes an electrically-conductive heatsink having a first end and an opposing second end, the first end electrically connected to the core assembly and an electrically-nonconductive isolator electrically insulating the heatsink.
Abstract:
A circuit breaker tripping mechanism providing relatively low instantaneous level tripping is disclosed. Circuit breaker tripping mechanism includes an armature with a first portion extending in a first direction from an armature pivot and a second portion extending in a second direction from the armature pivot, and a magnetic field generator configured as part of a line conductor. Magnetic field generator is operable to produce a magnetic field acting upon the second portion during a short circuit. Circuit breakers including the circuit breaker tripping mechanism and methods of tripping a circuit breaker are provided, as are other aspects.

Abstract:
A circuit breaker assembly includes a circuit breaker cassette having a connector receiving zone, and a housing receptive of the circuit breaker cassette. The housing includes a connector mounting member. A circuit breaker connector member snap-fittingly extends into the connector receiving zone through the connector mounting member joining the circuit breaker cassette and the housing.
Abstract:
Embodiments provide a low-profile, electronic circuit breaker. The electronic circuit breaker includes a housing containing first and second electrical branches coupled to respective first and second load terminals, and an electronic processing circuit within the housing adapted to monitor an electrical condition of the first and second electrical branches, wherein a maximum transverse width (Wt) of the housing is limited to occupy only a single standard breaker panelboard location. Circuit breakers including triggering mechanisms and tripping units are also disclosed. System and method aspects are provided, as are other aspects.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to an electric protection apparatus comprising at least one switching module fitted on a mounting support, and a control device with an electromagnetic coil juxtaposed with one of the above-mentioned modules, this device comprising a magnetic shield arranged in a plane substantially perpendicular to the plane of the mounting support, said shield being located between the control device and the switching module situated closer to said device, facing the coil of the control device, and comprising at least one ferromagnetic part shaped in such a way that said shield performs magnetic guiding of the arc as soon as separation of the contacts takes place so as to increase the propulsion component of the Laplacian force acting on the arc as soon as separation of the contacts takes place.
Abstract:
Apparatus and systems and methods are described herein that provide a controlled circuit breaker that selectively interrupts a flow current associated with a first electrical phase and an uncontrolled circuit breaker that selectively interrupts current associated with a second electrical phase. The controlled circuit breaker and uncontrolled circuit breaker are coupled to one another and configured to be installed in adjacent slots in a circuit breaker panel.
Abstract:
A pressure sensitive circuit breaker trip unit has a case forming a gas receiving cavity and a cavity accommodating movement of an actuator body with a trip lever. The actuator is moved by pressure of circuit interruption gases entering the gas receiving cavity. The actuator body has a hollow therein for accepting the interruption gases and accompanying hot debris thereby reducing any fouling of the movement accommodating cavity which may impede movement of the actuator body on subsequent circuit interruptions.
Abstract:
