Abstract: A simulation system and method for simulating a noise environment of a vehicle includes a memory configured to store a reference sample signal and a noise sample signal, a control unit electrically connected to the memory and configured to generate a reference signal based on the reference sample signal, generate a noise signal based on the noise sample signal, and transmit the reference signal to a noise control system, and a speaker electrically connected to the control unit and configured to convert the noise signal into a sound wave and output the sound wave.

Abstract: Various technologies described herein pertain to active noise cancellation in the interior of a vehicle. In exemplary embodiments, a microphone mounted on the vehicle outputs an audio signal indicative of noise emitted by a noise source. A computing system of the vehicle determines a position of the noise source based upon sensor signals output by sensors mounted on the vehicle. The computing system further determines a position of a passenger in the vehicle based upon a sensor mounted inside the vehicle. The computing system generates a complementary signal that is configured to attenuate the noise based upon the audio signal, the position of the noise source, and the position of the passenger. The complementary signal is then output by way of a speaker in the interior of the vehicle.

Abstract: A sound system includes: a control system that generates a control signal for erasing noise from a signal of the noise in a place close to a head of a user who uses a seat; a silencing speaker system that is installed at the place close to the head of the user who uses the seat and includes M speaker units each emitting a sound based on the control signal; and an emission suppression unit including at least a sound absorbing material that easily absorbs only a sound having a frequency greater than or equal to a predetermined value and configured to make it difficult for the sound having the frequency greater than or equal to the predetermined value emitted from the silencing speaker units to be emitted to a place other than an ear of the user. The m-th silencing speaker unit is arranged so that a sound emitted from the m-th silencing speaker unit in the m-th silencing user direction is silenced at a place other than a place close to the head of the user who uses the seat due to coming around of a sound emitted from the m-th silencing speaker unit in a direction opposite to the m-th silencing user direction.

Abstract: A headphone arrangement is configured to induce natural directional pinna cues. The arrangement comprises an ear cup comprising a frame configured to at least partly encircle the ear of a user, wherein the frame is at least partially hollow. The arrangement further comprises a loudspeaker arranged within a wall of a frontal part, a rear part, an upper part, and/or a lower part of the frame, the loudspeaker comprising a membrane, a first side of the membrane facing a cavity inside the frame, and a second side of the membrane facing the outside. At least one loudspeaker is arranged at a first angle with respect to a median plane crossing a user's head midway between the user's ears such that a main direction of sound propagation is directed away from the median plane, and the second side of the membrane is directed away from the median plane.

Abstract: A method for binaural synthesis of at least one virtual sound source comprises operating a first device comprising at least four physical sound sources, wherein, when the first device is used by a user, at least two physical sound sources are positioned closer to a first ear of the user than to a second ear, and at least two physical sound sources are positioned closer to the second ear than to the first ear, and wherein, for each ear, at least two physical sound sources are configured to acoustically induce natural directional pinna cues associated with different directions of sound arrival at the ear of the user. The method further comprises receiving and processing at least one audio input signal and distributing at least one processed version of the audio input signal at least between 4 kHz and 12 kHz over at least two physical sound sources for each ear.

Abstract: A system for reducing undesired interference in a target zone is disclosed. The system comprises a set of M pickup sensors, a beam forming network coupled to the M pickup sensors, and a set of N injectors coupled to the beam forming network. The M pickup sensors pick up undesired signals in real time and generate M pickup signals, M being an integer greater than or equal to 1. The beam forming network comprises a set of M beam forming modules. Each of the M beam forming modules receives a respective one of the M pickup signals and generates N intermediate signals, N being an integer greater than 1. The N intermediate signals generated by each of the M beam forming modules are combined correspondingly with remaining intermediate signals generated by remaining M−1 beam forming modules to generate N interference signals. The N injectors receive and radiate the N interference signals to the target zone.

Abstract: The present invention provides a system to create a quiet zone by suppressing background noise near a user's head. The present invention utilizes two microphones; one microphone receives environmental noise and the other one is located close to a person's head. A parabolic dish loudspeaker creates a uniform sound field near a user's head. A high performance frequency-domain filtered-x least mean square with band selection (FD-FX-LMS-BS) algorithm is utilized to generate the anti-phase noise signals. The algorithm has high noise reduction performance and also allows selection of specific frequency bands for noise reduction. The FD-FX-LMS-BS algorithm is performed by a field programmable gate array (FPGA) chip, which has minimal delay in algorithm processing.
