A wearable sensor system is disclosed that provides a measurable magnetic field that changes horizontally within the range of motion of human limbs. The wearable sensor system includes a magnetic sensing device, and one or more magnet devices that provide the measurable magnetic field with a strength exceeding the Earth's magnetic field. To this end, the magnetic sensing system provides a “personal” magnetic field about a user, with that magnetic field traveling with the user and overpowering adjacent interfering fields. The wearable sensor system may include a sensor arrangement that measures a strength of the personal magnetic field and field direction to perform horizontal localization, and may send a representation of a same to a remote computing device to cause an action to occur. Some such actions include output of pre-recorded or synthesized musical notes, for example.

A key actuation system that is designed for use with a keyboard instrument of the type having multiple keys. Each key is pivotally supported and has a front end that is depressed by a player to play a note. The actuation system includes multiple actuators that are operable to move at least some of the keys. The actuators together include a block of ferromagnetic material with a surface with multiple bores defined in the surface. Each of the bores has a diameter. A winding is positioned in each of the bores. Each of the windings has a hole. A piston is provided at least partially in each of the holes, with each piston being in mechanical communication with one of the keys such that movement of the piston causes movement of the key. Each piston has a width. A ferromagnetic flux plate with multiple openings is positioned on the surface of the block of ferromagnetic material with the openings aligned with the bores. The openings each have a width that is less than the diameter of the bores, such that the flux plate partially closes off the upper end of each bore. When the windings are energized, the corresponding piston moves, thereby moving one of the keys.

An apparatus and method for continuous keyboard system. The Continuous Music Keyboard resembles a traditional keyboard in that it is approximately the same size and is played with ten fingers. It also resembles a fretless string instrument in that it has no discrete pitches; any pitch and any tuning may be played, and finger movements produce smooth glissandi and vibrato. The Continuous Music Keyboard comprises a plurality of rods, each of which has a magnet on each end. The displacement of each rod is measured through mounted Hall-Effect sensors. The sensor values are then analyzed to identify the three-dimensional location of the fingers depressing upon a control surface. Additionally, predictive analysis is conducted on values collected to identify whether a new depression on the control surface has occurred, or rather if a previously placed finger is simply moving alone the Continuous Music Keyboard.

The key actuation system is designed for use with a keyboard instrument of the type that has a key fulcrum which pivotally supports multiple keys. Each key has a front end forward of the fulcrum which is to be depressed by a player, and a rear portion which is positioned rearward of the fulcrum and it pivots upwardly when the front end is depressed. The key actuation system includes a pull solenoid with a coil portion and a piston. When the coil portion of the solenoid is energized, the piston is drawn into the coil portion. The solenoid is mounted such that the coil portion is above one of the keys and behind the key fulcrum. The piston is in mechanical communication with the rear portion of the key so that when the coil portion is energized and the piston is drawn into the coil portion, the rear portion of the key is lifted upwardly.

Keys having respective contact means for energizing each of the amplifiers, cause a multiplicity of magnetic elements to generate respective voltages in coils, each voltage being proportional to the force with which an individual key has been depressed. This voltage sets the gain of a respective amplifier, so that the loudness of a recorded tone heard is proportional to the actuating force of a key.

In a keying system for an electronic musical instrument in which an individual keyer is controlled in response to the intensity of depression of a corresponding playing key so that a keyed tone signal has an amplitude in accordance with the key depression intensity, an impulse supply means associated with the operation of the key is provided to additively control the keyer individually. The impulse signal applied to the keyer determines the buildup envelope (amplitude) characteristic of the keyed tone signal. The system is simple in construction and easy to manufacture and provides a variety of excellent tonal effects.

In a keying system for an electronic musical instrument in which an individual keyer is controlled in response to the intensity of depression of a corresponding playing key so that a keyed tone signal has an amplitude in accordance with the key depression intensity, there are further provided impedance converter circuits for providing keying signals of low output impedance and waveform-shaping circuits for converting the keyed tone signal into a required waveform each corresponding in number to the number of the keyers. The arrangement enables each of the tone keyers to be of a low impedance so that the individual keyer is easily connected with the corresponding waveform-shaping circuit resulting in prevention of unwanted inductive interferences.
