    Abstract: A key actuation system that is designed for use with a keyboard instrument of the type having multiple keys. Each key is pivotally supported and has a front end that is depressed by a player to play a note. The actuation system includes multiple actuators that are operable to move at least some of the keys. The actuators together include a block of ferromagnetic material with a surface with multiple bores defined in the surface. Each of the bores has a diameter. A winding is positioned in each of the bores. Each of the windings has a hole. A piston is provided at least partially in each of the holes, with each piston being in mechanical communication with one of the keys such that movement of the piston causes movement of the key. Each piston has a width. A ferromagnetic flux plate with multiple openings is positioned on the surface of the block of ferromagnetic material with the openings aligned with the bores. The openings each have a width that is less than the diameter of the bores, such that the flux plate partially closes off the upper end of each bore. When the windings are energized, the corresponding piston moves, thereby moving one of the keys.

    Abstract: The key actuation system is designed for use with a keyboard instrument of the type having multiple keys. Each of the keys has an upper and lower surface and is pivotally supported above a key bed. A front end of a key may be depressed by a player to play a note. The key bed extends under and is spaced from the lower surface of the key. The actuation system includes an underlever in the space between the lower surface of the key and the key bed, and between the front end of the key in the pivotal support. The underlever has one end that is supported in a stationary position relative to the key bed and another end that is movable towards and away from the key bed. The movable end of the underlever is in mechanical communication with the key such that movement of the movable end of the underlever towards the key bed causes the key to move as if depressed by a player. An actuator is in mechanical communication with the underlever and operable to move the second end of the underlever towards the key bed.

    Abstract: This invention relates to musical instruments. Its use for mounting a solenoid above a string of stringed instrument for pressing this string to a specific fret of finger-board allows to simplify that mounting and ensure the absence of the knock at a moment of actuating the solenoid. The method is implemented in a stringed instrument bearing, above a finger-board thereof, a common plate having through-holes under each solenoid comprising a coil, within which coil a plunger adapted for axial movement being disposed, the plunger tapering to an output stud thereof for limiting a working travel of the plunger with a stopper ring displaced at a coil edge facing the string, the output stud having thickening at an end with elastic washers at both the side facing the string and reverse side. The method includes steps of: securing the solenoid at a separate plate; disposing the separate plate above the common plate so that the thickening of the output stud permeates the respective through-hole; fixing the separate plate above the common plate, using adjusting screws with elastic spacers put thereupon between the separate plate and common plate, until the string being pressed with the stud on supplying a working current to the solenoid coil; shifting the separate plate using the adjusting screws in such a location that the pressure of the string occurs, on supplying the working current to the solenoid coil, without a knock arisen from an impact made by the plunger taper with the stopper ring.

    Abstract: An addressable valve system is described wherein a plurality of valves are embedded into a single, compact valve block. Each valve comprises a piston moving in a bore in the block. A magnet embedded in the piston is positioned within a coil. When energized, the coil attracts the magnet and the plunger upwards away from a valve seat. Magnetic shields disposed between the pistons provide magnetic isolation between the pistons and simultaneously apply a closing force to the pistons by drawing the magnets downward towards the valve seat. When energized, the coils overwhelm the closing force and open the valves. Electronics for the valve block and the coils are provided on a circuit board overlying the pistons and bores. The electronics provide addressability of the valves and automatically generate “pick” and “hold” timing whereby the initial motivating force (voltage) applied to the current is higher to get the valves moving quickly when valve is first commanded to open. After a brief period of time, the coil voltage is lowered to a level that provided a lower maintaining force to keep the valve open.
