Abstract:
The invention relates to methods for memorizing words in a foreign language. A method provides for the rendition of a foreign song and the synchronous presentation of textual subtitles on a display. The subtitles are produced on the display in the form of blocks placed one underneath another, each of which comprises a fragment of the text of the song and consists of three separate lines: a line containing the text of the song in the foreign language, a line containing the text of a translation into a native language, and a line containing the phonetic transcription of the words of the foreign song in the alphabetic characters of the native language, said line being the middle line in the block. The block is split into columns, each of which includes one word or phrase of the text fragment for the line containing the text of the song in the foreign language.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for interacting with a person receiving a sequence of inputs from a person, the sequence of inputs represent a sequence of symbols, multiple sections of an input unit are associated with the symbols, such that the person presses multiple sections to represent a predefined sequence. At least some of the sensors are associated with sections of the input unit. Processing the information sensed by the sensors and identifying the sequence of symbols from the sequence of inputs inputted. Comparing the identified sequence with a sequence stored in a repository. Outputting audio or visual signals in accordance with the identification of the sequence. The input unit having two or more regions divided into two or more different symbol types, one of the symbol types is letters, the sequence of inputs comprising letters and additional symbols, and multiple sections in each region.
Abstract:
This invention discloses a Chinese input method using Pinyin plus a new tone notation on a Western keyboard or keypad to input Chinese characters, characterized in that the user can input a Chinese compound word (polysyllabic word) containing several syllables and tones by just keying in a series of letters representing the syllables and tones of the word, and the letters are all joined together without causing any confusion. This feature is attributed to the new tone input method of this invention, which is characterized in that the three letters j, q and x are used to input three of the four tones of Putonghua (Mandarin), and “no entry” is used to input the remaining tone. There is a detailed logical reasoning in the specification of this patent application explaining how this method can achieve the feature of “syllables with tones are joined together without causing confusion”. Input of these syllables with tones via just a Western keyboard, together with the important feature of “the syllables with tones are joined together without causing confusion”, will have a major impact on the technical field of Chinese input method.
Abstract:
Apparatus to simulate driving a land vehicle comprising a fixed base platform, a mobile platform disposed above said base platform, a mobile driver's position, associated with the mobile platform and in which a driver has his seat during normal use, and movement means associated with the base platform and with the mobile platform to provide the movement of said mobile platform with respect to the base platform.
Abstract:
Reverse Language Resonance methods are described for instructing a target language to a learner who speaks a native language. The methods may include providing to the learner a predetermined lesson comprising a lesson text of a plurality of lesson words that are exclusively in the target language. The methods may further include priming implicit memory of the learner. The methods may further include displaying the lesson text on a display and playing a recorded version of spoken words of the lesson text on an audio output while the lesson text is displayed. The methods may further include instructing the learner to perform Concurrent Triple Activity including simultaneously reading the lesson text on the display, listening to the spoken words from the audio output, and repeating the spoken words along with the recorded version into an audio input while the recorded version is playing.
Abstract:
Both a system and method are provided for transliterating a name written in the letters of an alphabet of a source language to a name in the letters of an alphabet of a target language. The system includes instructions to determine whether the letters of the alphabets of the source and target languages are the same. If so, the instructions transliterate the name into the same letters used in the source language alphabet. If not, the instructions (1) determine the sound associated with each of the letters of the source language that form the name; (2) transliterate the letters into letters of the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) to create a same or similar sounding name in the letters of the IPA; (3) determine the sound associated with each of the letters of the target language, and (4) transliterate the letters of the IPA form into letters of the target language.
Abstract:
A system and method for providing a word game for honing of vocabulary skills includes populating, by a computer processor, a tile grid with a plurality of words related by a predefined criterion, such that each of the words is adjacent to at least one other of the words to form a path beginning at a start grid tile and ending at an end grid tile, the start and end tiles being at least one edge of the tile grid; and transmitting and/or outputting the populated tile grid. The predefined criterion may be, for example, that all of the words are synonymous with respect to at least one word sense of a seed word.
Abstract:
An educational tool includes a plurality of removable stickers, at least one sticker further comprising at least one word in both a first language and a second language. The stickers may be arranged in sheets and/or a book and are intended to be removably applied to objects in an environment that are representative of the words provided on the stickers. Thus, a user can easily grasp the meaning of the word or phrase from the close proximity of the two versions of the word or phrase and the application of such word or phrase to an object that is representative of such word or phrase.
Abstract:
The present invention is a speech cueing system that incorporates a multi modal (auditory, visual, tactile-kinesthetic) approach to teaching speech sounds and an accompanying apparatus. The system provides explicit instructions on how to utilize the apparatus in the method of multi modal teaching The apparatus is a planar surface equipped with fixed and moveable cue markers and vowel and consonant sound cards. The planar surface has securement locations at either end and along the fixed cue marker, for placement of the movable cue marker and sound cards in specific arrangements to teach various sound combinations, as set forth in the written instructions. The instructions also include designated tactile kinesthetic hand movement patterns that work in conjunction with the set up of the apparatus for the given sound combinations.
Abstract:
An apparatus for marking a page in a predetermined book. The apparatus comprises a substrate having a predetermined size and a predetermined configuration and selected words disposed adjacent definitions of the selected words on at least one side of the substrate, the selected words being words that are used in such predetermined book which are likely to be unfamiliar to an average reader of such book for which the apparatus is to be used.
