    摘要: The invention provides a system and method for automatically, accurately, and repeatable aligning computer numerically controlled (CNC) movable machine components with respect to their respective degrees of freedom of motion. One embodiment of the invention, particularly useful for maintenance purposes, provides a programmable CNC programmer that uses a spindle mounted probe to measure at least two different positions of a point on a movable machine component to evaluate the geometric condition of the component with respect to a degree of freedom of motion of the component and issue alignment instructions to the machine operator. One embodiment provides the invention in a CNC computer program on a programmable media having a programmed set of instructions. The preferred embodiment uses the controller control the CNC machine's operation and spindle movement, perform the machine components' maintenance evaluation, and issue instructions for aligning the components in a consistent manner.

    摘要: A method and system for the flexible assembly of components into an assembly at an assembly station within an assembly area in an adaptive, programmable fashion. Several programmable locators mounted on a platform work cooperatively to receive and support components or parts having critical positioning features at approximate locations. The programmable locators then move the components so that the critical positioning features and hence the components are at desired locations. Thereafter, part position and orientation are constrained at retaining locations while the components are in their desired locations. Processing equipment at least partially joins the retained components either at the assembly station or at a separate processing station. One of the programmable locators may provide one of the retaining locations. Preferably, at least one sensor mounted on one of the programmable locators provides at least one feedback signal for a control means which controls at least one programmable locator to adapt its position with respect to at least one critical feature of its part to thereby relocate the part. In this way, verification of the accuracy of the positioning and holding is provided.

    摘要: A log processor and log processing method scans a log (L) at a first station (18) so that the longitudinal centerline (32) and a sawing scheme for the log can be automatically determined by a controller (4). The log is oriented at a second station (24) so that the longitudinal centerline is oriented with respect to a vertical plane passing through the feed line. The position of the log is automatically adjusted at third and fourth stations (36, 42) so that the saw blade path (56) through the log is generally parallel to the feed line as the log passes a log exit (12) and through a saw (14). The sawing scheme can include variable tapering sawing from split taper sawing to full taper sawing. Differential steering chain assemblies (37) may be used at the fourth station and may each include continuous loop, log-engaging chains (106) which engage the log above and below the log. Log chipping, profiling heads (62) may be used on either side of the feed line, such as at a fifth station. The log is preferably stabilized at the log exit.
