摘要: A reactor temperature measurement system includes a Fiber Bragg Grating sensor array arranged in a body of the reactor for monitoring temperatures at multiple positions in an axial direction of the body to obtain temperature sensing optical signals; and a fiber grating demodulator, connected to the Fiber Bragg Grating sensor array, and used to demodulate the temperature sensing optical signals. A method for preparing a Fiber Bragg Grating includes preparing a Fiber Bragg Grating by using a single-mode fiber and annealing the Fiber Bragg Grating, which includes heating the Fiber Bragg Grating to a temperature above 400° C. and maintaining for 100 to 200 hours.

摘要: Arrays of integrated analytical devices and their methods for production are provided. The arrays are useful in the analysis of highly multiplexed optical reactions in large numbers at high densities, including biochemical reactions, such as nucleic acid sequencing reactions. The integrated devices allow the highly sensitive discrimination of optical signals using features such as spectra, amplitude, and time resolution, or combinations thereof. The arrays and methods of the invention make use of silicon chip fabrication and manufacturing techniques developed for the electronics industry and highly suited for miniaturization and high throughput.

摘要: A waveguide Bragg grating includes a silicon substrate defining a length, a width and a depth and a silicon dioxide (SiO2) cladding over the silicon substrate and encasing a silicon nitride (Si3Ni4) core extending along the length of the silicon substrate and defining a variable width and thickness; wherein the silicon nitride (Si3Ni4) core is configured as and functions as a complex Bragg grating waveguide. The waveguide Bragg grating is designed by determining a grating profile of the silicon nitride (Si3Ni4) core from a Layer Peeling algorithm and a Layer Adding algorithm; and mapping the grating profile to a 1-layer waveguide structure with varying width dimensions. The method further relates the grating profile to an effective index variation and maps the range of the effective index variation to the structure. The width corresponds to a single specific effective index. A method of manufacturing is also disclosed.

摘要: An optical fiber of the present invention includes an uncoated FBG fiber in which an FBG mirror is written in a core glass, a first optical fiber that is spliced to one end of the FBG fiber with a first spliced point interposed therebetween, and a second optical fiber that is spliced to the other end of the FBG fiber with a second spliced point interposed therebetween. The optical fiber of the present invention also includes a collectively recoated portion in which at least the FBG fiber, the first spliced point, and the second spliced point are collectively recoated with a recoat resin having a refractive index less than that of silica, the FBG fiber being sandwiched between the first spliced point and the second spliced point.

摘要: A photoinduced refractive-index changing region is formed by irradiating while focusing a single beam of pulse laser light having an energy amount to cause a photoinduced change in refractive index onto a light guide of an optical element such as a lens, a mirror, a diffraction grating, a polarizer, or a wavelength filter. In the photoinduced refractive-index changing region, since the refractive index is periodically changed in one direction, of the light propagating through the optical element, only a polarized light penetrates through this photoinduced refractive-index changing region. Accordingly, the photoinduced refractive-index changing region can be functioned as a polarizer.

摘要: A glass article comprising a glass substrate and a diamond-like film deposited on the substrate is disclosed. The glass article is desirably responsive to actinic radiation, such as being capable of demonstrating a change in refractive index upon exposure to actinic radiation. The film permits passage of the actinic radiation through the film and into the substrate. In specific implementations, the film comprises at least about 30 atomic percent carbon, from about 0 to about 50 atomic percent silicon, and from about 0 to about 50 atomic percent oxygen on a hydrogen-free basis.
