    摘要: A magnetic property determination apparatus that detects a magnetic property of each magnetic material included in a paper sheet transported through a transport path and determines the magnetic materials. The magnetic property determination apparatus includes a magnetic detection unit that generates on the transport path a bias magnetic field having a magnetic field direction inclined to a transport surface of the paper sheet by a specific angle and detects the magnetic charge of the magnetic materials by detecting variation of the bias magnetic field; and a magnetization unit that is arranged upstream of the magnetic detection unit in the transport direction and magnetizes the magnetic materials by generating on the transport path a magnetization magnetic field having a magnetic field direction oriented in a direction different from the direction of the bias magnetic field. At a position at which the magnetic detection unit detects the magnetism, the magnetic materials are in a state in which the magnetic materials are magnetized in mutually different magnetization directions according to coercive force thereof.

    摘要: Identification, quantification and characterization of biological micro- and nano-systems is enabled by magnetically spinning these natural, non-magnetic systems with the aid of induced magnetization. Biofriendly magnetic micro- and nano-labels enable magnetorotation in extremely weak electromagnetic fields. The spinning of these micromotors can be observed by a simple, CD-like, optical tracking system. The spinning frequency response enables real-time monitoring of single (cancer) cell morphology, with sub-microscopic resolution, yielding previously undeterminable information. Likewise, it enables super-low detection limits for any (cancer) biomarker.

    摘要: A field strength indicator for a magnetic particle inspection process is used to determine field strength and direction sufficient to identify real flaws in a test piece. The field strength indicator is a substantially flat shim having at least one series of artificial flaws formed therein by electric discharge machining. The artificial flaws have a geometry which render them compatible with real flaws and thus enable the magnetic field strength and direction to be properly set for conducting a magnetic particle inspection procedure. The surface containing the artifical flaws must be covered with a thin inert and non-magnetic coating for proper operation.

    摘要: A flux scanner head generates a unidirectional magnetic field external to the head adjacent a scanning surface thereof. Workpieces to be subjected to magnetic particle inspection may be successively passed through, held in, or otherwise associated with, the unidirectional field at different angles to achieve magnetization along multiple axes, without physical or electrical contact with the workpiece. The scanner head is usable with both residual and continuous methods of magnetic particle inspection, and as either a hand-held or fixed-mount system. The scanner head itself incorporates a coil having a plurality of turns with a ferromagnetic core separating such turns so as to intensify and direct outward and external to the surface of the scanner head the magnetic field generated by current flow through the coil.
