摘要: In an embodiment, a photoinitiation apparatus includes: a set of illumination sources or elements configured for outputting optical energy; a body structure having a proximal body structure portion confining a proximal volume of explosive medium, an intermediate body structure portion confining an intermediate volume of explosive medium, and a distal body structure portion confining a distal volume of explosive medium, wherein the proximal volume of explosive medium is optically coupled to portions of the first volume of explosive medium, at least one of the proximal volume of explosive medium and the distal volume of explosive medium is a tertiary explosive medium, and (a) the body structure does not carry a primary explosive composition and does not carry a secondary explosive composition, and/or (b) each of the proximal, intermediate, and distal volumes of explosive media has an initiation sensitivity that is less than cyclotrimethylenetrinitramine (RDX) based explosive compositions.

摘要: Substituted poly(phosphazene) compounds comprising a combination of units having one or more of the structures (i) to (iii) wherein: the combination comprises R1 and R2; each R1, is independently an optionally substituted alkyl- or alkyl ether-based side chain containing an isocyanate-reactive moiety, an epoxide-reactive moiety, an amine-reactive moiety, a supramolecular noncovalent bonding moiety, or combinations thereof; and each R2 is independently an optionally substituted alkyl- or alkyl ether-based side chain containing nitro, nitramine, nitrate ester, azide, an ammonium compound moiety with energetic counter-ion, or combinations thereof. Methods of making the compounds are also described.

摘要: Detonation control modules and detonation control circuits are provided herein. A trigger input signal can cause a detonation control module to trigger a detonator. A detonation control module can include a timing circuit, a light-producing diode such as a laser diode, an optically triggered diode, and a high-voltage capacitor. The trigger input signal can activate the timing circuit. The timing circuit can control activation of the light-producing diode. Activation of the light-producing diode illuminates and activates the optically triggered diode. The optically triggered diode can be coupled between the high-voltage capacitor and the detonator. Activation of the optically triggered diode causes a power pulse to be released from the high-voltage capacitor that triggers the detonator.

摘要: An optical initiator of a pyrotechnic charge, including: a body including a cavity, which contains the pyrotechnic charge and a mechanism for igniting the charge by absorption of a laser radiation, the ignition mechanism being placed in contact with the charge; a laser radiation source; an optical fiber for transporting laser radiation from the source to the ignition mechanism. The ignition mechanism includes a metal plate and the metal plate and the laser radiation source are configured for a laser radiation issuing from the laser radiation source to be absorbed by the metal plate and converted into thermal energy, so that thermal conduction of the thermal energy from the metal plate to the pyrotechnic charge causes the ignition of the pyrotechnic charge. The metal plate can include perforations arranged periodically.

摘要: An explosives detonator system includes a detonator housing within which is provided a detonation circuit that includes a conductive pathway having a fuse head integrated therewith such that the conductive pathway passes along both electrodes and a resistive bridge of the fuse head. An uncharged chargeable voltage source is also integrated with the detonation circuit and is electrically sensitive to a charging property which is included in a charging signal. Exposure to the charging property charges the voltage source, thereby rendering it capable of generating a potential difference between the electrodes at least to equal the breakdown voltage of the resistive bridge. The charging property is any one or more of a charging light pulse, a charging temperature, a charging pressure and a charging radio frequency.

摘要: An ordnance fuse apparatus is described that uses electrical and mechanical, and optical devices. The ordnance fuse apparatus includes a controller to control an optical switch and a laser to detonate an explosive charge of the ordnance. Other embodiments include an accelerometer and/or spin detector for detecting that the ordnance has been fired and an optical detector for detecting the proper operation of the laser and a position sensor for detecting correct positioning of the optical switch. Another embodiment includes a microlens to focus the laser optical signal onto the ignitor. In yet other embodiments, the explosive charge is detonated either by ignition of an ignitor or by a shock wave from the ignitor. The resulting ordnance fuse apparatus has significantly reduced size and improved performance and safety.
