    摘要: This specification discloses a self contained solar heating supplemental unit characterized by solar collector; a mast carrying a solar collector above the earth's surface; a dual function base carrying the mast and the solar collector and serving as a thermal storage unit; first heating coil disposed in the base; first interconnecting conduits interconnecting the solar collector with the first heating coil; a pump for circulating a heat conducting fluid through the solar collector and the base for transferring heat from the solar collector to the base; insulation surrounding the base to minimize heat leakage therefrom; and at least one second heat withdrawal coil disposed in the base and having connectors for connection with the second withdrawal circuit for withdrawing heat from the base for utilization. Also disclosed are specific and preferred embodiments in which respective second heat withdrawal coils are connected respectively with air circulating means and with liquid circulating means, the liquid being passed in heat exchange relationship with air or the like, as well as specific structural embodiments.

    摘要: A thermophotovoltaic power source comprising a Cassegrain solar collector and concentrator, a thermal vessel including a containment vessel holding thermal storage material therein, the containment vessel having the shape of an annulus closed at one end and disposed with its open end in registry with an aperture in the thermal vessel, with a selective band radiating layer coating the internal surface of the annulus cavity, and further including an external array of photovoltaic cells mounted on a cooled cylinder disposed for insertion by a positioning motor to a desired depth into the annulus cavity and thus into adjacency with the selective band radiating layer. Concentrated solar energy is applied by the solar collector through a second aperture into the thermal vessel to heat the thermal storage material in the containment vessel and thereby cause the selective radiating layer to radiate energy to excite a current in the photovoltaic array. Constant current control and/or load-matching are obtained by varying the degree of insertion of the photovoltaic array into the thermal storage annular cavity.

    摘要: A solar energy concentrator and collector having a concentrator made up of one or more anticlastic panels that feature a non-developable doubly curved surface. The panels are concave in the north-south direction and convex in the east-west direction. In one embodiment, the panels are formed to have parallel circular arcs in the north-south direction of increasing radius from the center of the panel to its edges and having a curved cross-section in the east-west direction. The concentrator reflects light to a narrow zone of concentration which moves within a plane in response to changes in the angle of incidence of sunlight thereon. A method for forming the specially shaped reflective fiber reinforced plastic panel is also disclosed.

    摘要: A movable solar collector structured to move between a first or solar collecting position and a second or storage position as desired by the user. The movable solar collector may be in the nature of a closure member adapted to close an entryway in the first position and open that entryway in the second position. One preferred form is an overhead door, e.g., a garage door, comprised of a plurality of door panels. Each door panel is structured to collect solar energy, and is hinged to adjacent door panels so that the panels can be moved between a generally vertical closure position where the collector is exposed to solar energy, and a generally horizontal open position where the collector is elevated above ground level. The plural door panels are structured to establish an integrated hollow collector unit when in the first position, the plural panels cooperating with a fluid that circulates interiorly thereof for absorbing solar energy into that fluid. One of the panels is connected with exterior piping in the collector's first position for transmitting solar energy received by the fluid to a remote use location.

    摘要: A conventional fiber optic solar collector employs a matrix of lenses mounted in an enclosure similar to that of a conventional flat plate collector. Each lens focuses a solar image upon the open end of a respective optical fiber. The fibers are bundled together and led to a using device. In this conventional system the entire enclosure is rotated to face the sun. The present invention permits this enclosure to be mounted in fixed position facing the southern sky. As the sun traverses the sky, a pattern of solar images sweeps across the focal plane of the lenses. A plate is placed in this focal plane and the optical fibers mounted in it so that their open ends form a similar pattern. The plate is then moved to cause the solar images to fall on their respective optical fibers.In a significant improvement, a second plate is mounted behind the first. Fibers pass through holes in this second plate. The second plate is moved in conjunction with the first so that the open ends of the fibers are maintained perpendicular to the paraxial rays of the incident radiation.
