Abstract: A system and process for producing carbon nano-materials is disclosed. A carbonate material such as Li2CO3 is heated via a furnace to transform into molten carbonate. CO2 is bubbled into the molten carbonate. The molten carbonate is subjected to electrolysis by passing current from an anode to a cathode. A transition metal nucleation agent is added to result in nucleation sites that grow carbon nano-materials at the cathode. This process separates oxygen at the anode and carbon nano-materials at the cathode. The characteristics of the carbon nano-material may be controlled by varying current density, feed gas, transition metal composition, temperature, viscosity and electrolyte composition.

Abstract: A solar panel that attains very low cost/Watt objectives is achieved by applying an optical concentrator with planar symmetry in combination with a simple 1-axis tracking system. The concentrator uses a Cassegrain optical system to provide moderate concentration factors that can be adjusted by varying the ratio of the focal lengths of the concave and convex reflecting surfaces. Concentrator dimensions can be scaled to any convenient size. They can be arrayed in parallel to form a solar panel that has the same form factor as a 1-sun solar panel. One-axis tracking is achieved by simply rotating the collector elements in synchronism so the sun is maintained in the plane of symmetry for each of the collector elements that comprise the panel.

Abstract: A solar concentrator assembly includes a tripod, a base, a reflective dish, a receptacle, and a thermoelectric module or a heat transfer module. The tripod includes legs and a top tripod connector coupled to top portions thereof. The base includes a rod coupled to the tripod; a bottom support structure coupled to the rod; a top support structure coupled to the bottom support structure; an extension coupled to the bottom support structure and the top support structure; and a cap with recesses mounted to the top support structure. The reflective dish includes support rods received within the recesses; a pliable material forms panels, wherein the support rods are inserted into seams between the panels; and a reflective material disposed on the pliable material. The receptacle is connected to the base and disposed within the reflective dish. The thermoelectric module or the heat transfer module is partially disposed within the receptacle.

Abstract: This invention relates to a portable or fixed solar powered heating ventilation air conditioner (HVAC) system. The disclosed invention consists of the following major components. 1) Solar Hot Water Tank/Storage Tank, 2) Solar Generator, 3) Solar HVAC Heat Exchanger Unit, 4) Solar Grill, 5) Wireless Network Energy Monitoring System and 6) Supervisor Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system. Also included is a list of appliances that the HVAC system can be configured to function as: a) refrigerator, b) air purifier/fan, c) pressure cooker, d) drink dispenser, and e) pressurized hot water supply. The HVAC system and above listed appliances is designed to be used in homes, businesses, camping, military, hospitals, FEMA and in developing countries with very little electrical or plumbing infrastructure. The HVAC is capable of supplying all the above mention functions while being powered solely on solar power, solar hot water/fluid or geothermal and a chilled water source, therefore creating a NetZero Energy Machine™ that required no power from a utility grid when properly sized.

Abstract: An automatically adjusting light shelf has a circuit of components used to measure light levels within a space; a light shelf hinged to a window assembly, used to reflect light entering the space; and a rotation device used to alter the light entering the space by rotating the light shelf. The light levels are measured using light sensors having a capacitive component and phototransistor in parallel with one another, a microcontroller, and optionally, a clock. The automatic operation of the light shelf can be overridden for manual operation. A method of using the automatically adjusting light shelf includes the steps of measuring a differential between the light levels reaching the light sensors; determining a direction to rotate the light shelf to alter the light; and rotating the light shelf so that the reflected light is optimized within the space.

Abstract: One disclosed embodiment is a concentrated solar thermal system for re-melting recycled or scrap metal. The system includes a solar receiver configured to receive concentrated solar flux reflected from one or many reflecting surfaces to heat a quantity of the recycled metal and cause at least a portion of the recycled metal to melt. The molten metal is then passed to a solidification stage where the molten metal may be cast into any type of solid form useful for sale or the subsequent production of metal products. The solidified metal may be sold or otherwise removed from the system. In certain embodiments, heat exchange is made to occur between the molten metal and the working fluid of an electrical power generation cycle resulting in electrical power generation. Methods of remelting metal using solar thermal power and methods of generating power using a molten metal heat transfer material derived from recycled metal or scrap are also disclosed.

Abstract: A two-axis tracking solar concentrator system includes a sunlight concentrator, a Fresnel lens, a two-axis solar tracker, sunlight reflectors, an enclosure, a sunlight conversion device, and other components. The lens has very long focal length so that all concentrated sunlight will enter the sunlight conversion device through a small window. The elevation rotation axis goes through the focal point so that the sunlight conversion device will remain at the same horizontal level all the time. The concentrated sunlight makes it easy to achieve a needed temperature. The two-axis tracking design eliminates the need of frequent adjustment. An offset design permits having the sunlight conversion device under shade, so that people do not have to expose themselves to sunlight to do solar cooking. The enclosure significantly reduces the risk of burns and fires. It also makes it very easy to control the heating or cooking process.

Abstract: Disclosed are systems and methods to concentrate sunlight with inflatable enclosures to heat substances, including fluids and for cooking, and to provide concentrated sunlight for other uses. The system includes an inflatable sunlight concentrator (upper balloon), an inflatable cooking housing (bottom balloon), and a cooking container. When inflated, the upper balloon has a substantially cone-shape and concentrates sunlight towards the bottom balloon.
