    摘要: A heating system for heating a confined area with an open-hearth wood-burning fireplace. A fireplace jacket is provided which comprises a multi-chambered double-walled arrangement or a grate member. Log supporting portions of the jacket slant upward slightly in order to prevent a pinging sound by creating convectional force when water is circulating therethrough. The grate member includes first and second headers formed from prisms with triangular bases, and water conducting pipe portions extending on three sides of a fire burning in the open-hearth fireplace. The fireplace jacket is readily utilizable with a conventional forced-air furnace in association with a heat exchanger disposed in the furnace cold air return. Combustion air for the fire is provided from an area external of the confined area to be heated by the heating system.

    摘要: A group of elongated, thin wall, black, PVC tube-like tanks extending horizontally and parallel to one another in an array. The tank ends are connected to fluid inlet and outlet manifolds. Rapid assembly of tanks and manifolds is facilitated by loose joints between tanks and tapered apertures in manifolds receiving tubular inlets and outlets on tanks. Also, the tubular/taper design makes an interference fit and sets up ideal conditions for liquid welding. Each tank has built in protection in the form of retained fluid in the event of failure of the pumping system.

    摘要: A solar heat collector having a collector element made from interconnected tubular members, each of which is provided with a transverse baffle, the baffles have openings forming spillways over which heat exchanging liquid passes. The collector element is preferably made from a plurality of tandem arranged sheet metal soft drink or beer cans, the ends of certain cans being removed before the cans are assembled. One or a plurality of collector elements are disposed along an incline such as a roof and a pump feeds liquid to the upper end or ends of the inclined collector element or elements to cascade down through each element and be heated by heat absorbed into the metal from the sun's rays. The heated liquid is then fed through a pipe or pipes from the lower end of each collector.

    摘要: The present solar energy conversion device has spaced, concentric outer and inner tubes of high conductivity metal, the outer tube having a blackened outside surface and a reflective inside surface. A core rod of low heat conductivity extends concentrically inside the inner tube, and water flows around this core rod in a shallow cylindrical stream inside the inner tube to absorb heat efficiently from the inner tube. The inner tube may have fins on the outside to enhance the heat transfer.

    摘要: A flat plate solar collector (10) of the header/riser type housed in a glazed collector enclosure (14) and having liquid conduits comprising risers (24) intercommunicating with headers (22, 26) at both ends of the risers. The risers are tapered and the headers are surrounded by full heat insulation (28, 30) as defined. The tapering of the risers is effective to prevent bursting of any riser occasioned by freezing of a working liquid especially for example potable water contained therein, by promotion of initial freezing in a localized region of the riser around its minimum cross-sectional area (32) followed by progressive travel of the freezing of the working liquid in the riser in a direction away from the localized region. The full heat insulation is effective to substantially delay total freezing of all the liquid in the headers.

    摘要: An arrangement for exchanging heat between a system of pipes which conduct a fluid heat exchange medium and a platelike heat exchange member. The arrangement is particularly intended for use in connection with air temperature regulating means such as solar heaters and waste heat systems which operate at a small temperature differential between the temperature of the plate-like heat exchange member and the fluid medium. Mutually facing surfaces of two substantially parallel material layers form a plenum. One of these surfaces comprises one side of the plate-like heat exchange member. The pipes which conduct the fluid medium are arranged parallel to one another in the plenum and are spaced apart from each other in a longitudinal direction of the plenum. A stream of gas or air is arranged to flow through the plenum. Gaps are formed on opposite sides of the pipes by spacer means. These gaps extend along a considerable part of the outer surface of each pipe and the gaps are dimensioned to cause the air or gas to move in a laminate flow through the gaps.

    摘要: A combination solar heat collector and awning is disclosed as an attachment for a travel trailer or mobile home wherein the heat collector panel is extendable to an awning position overlying the wall of the vehicle which should be facing toward the sun. The heat collector panel has water pipes extending therethrough which provide heated water to a tank mounted on the roof of the vehicle and connected to the domestic hot water system of the trailer or to heat radiators as desired.The heat collector panel is extendable and retractable with a cable system which is selectively motor operated or hand operated. The total unit when in stored position or in position of use has a relatively low silhouette and permits passage of the vehicle through normal roadways.
