Abstract: There is provided a continuous combustion system for iron particles. The system comprising a multi-annular combustion tube defining in cross-section at least three distinct passages from its inlet to its outlet. A first tube that is innermost, defines a first passage providing a primary air flow with suspended iron particles. A second tube, defines an inner annular space providing a secondary air flow, a pilot combustible flow, and an ignition point of a spark generator. A third tube defines a third passage comprises a swirl generator and provides a tertiary air flow. The tubes are nested in position within the multi-annular combustion tube. The system comprises a divergent nozzle at the outlet of the multi-annular combustion tube: a combustion reactor in fluid communication with the divergent nozzle, for the generation and stabilization of a turbulent iron flame that burns the iron particles and produces oxidized iron particles; and a cyclone.

Abstract: The present disclosure includes air spinners for use in duct burners, and duct burners and duct burner kits including a plurality of air spinners. Air spinners may include a plurality of blades extending radially outward from a fuel path and configured to impart rotation to air flowing between the blades, where the air spinner is configured to be coupled to a fuel runner of a duct burner such that the air spinner encircles a fuel outlet of the fuel runner with the axis of the fuel path extending at a non-parallel angle from an axis of the fuel runner. Duct burners can comprise a plurality of air spinners coupled to a plurality of fuel runners. Duct burner kits can comprise a plurality of air spinners configured to be coupled (e.g., without welding) to a plurality of fuel runners.

Abstract: A method and structure for operating a combustion system of a gas turbine engine to mitigate low frequency combustion acoustics is generally provided. The method includes flowing an oxidizer through a fuel nozzle passage defining an inner wall and an outer wall, in which each of the inner wall and the outer wall are contoured from a first radius to a second radius smaller than the first radius; flowing the oxidizer at a higher axial velocity at the inner wall relative to the outer wall upstream of a fuel injection port; flowing a fuel through the fuel injection port to the fuel nozzle passage to mix with the flow of oxidizer to produce a fuel-oxidizer mixture; and igniting the fuel-oxidizer mixture downstream of the fuel injection port.

The system includes a gas train, which includes a gas inlet configured to receive gaseous fuel from at least one gaseous-fuel source, a gaseous-fuel burner assembly adapted to replace a liquid-fuel burner of the liquid-fuel combustion heater, the gaseous-fuel burner assembly including a gaseous-fuel nozzle configured to inject the gaseous fuel into a moving stream of air to form a moving air-fuel combustion mixture, the gaseous-fuel nozzle having a set of nozzle turning vanes configured to induce a vortex within the moving air-fuel combustion mixture. Components of the system are arrange to use the original mounting points of the liquid-fuel burner assembly.

Abstract: An injection system for a turbine engine combustion chamber is provided. The injection system includes a first annular deflector surrounded by the bowl of the injection system and extending in the downstream direction from the downstream transverse surface that delimits the downstream side of the swirler. The first deflector has a free downstream end offset in the upstream direction from a downstream end of the bowl, so as to guide an air film output from the first orifices formed through the bowl. The internal radius of the cross section of the first annular deflector increases from the downstream transverse surface as far as the downstream end of the first annular deflector.

Abstract: This is an upright heater igniting combustible gas to induce a naturally aspirated flame within a glass tube. Air channels producing the naturally aspirated flame enters the glass tube in a direction perpendicular to the direction of the flame thus creating a twirling flame. Heat waves generated by the twirling flame within a glass tube rises to a heat concentrator and projected onto a parabolic heat shield thus reflecting the heat wave radially downward and outward.
