    摘要: A rotational body, to a rotor and to a flywheel energy storage unit having such rotational bodies is disclosed and a method for the production of a rotational body, having a cylinder jacket at least partially wound using a fiber-reinforced composite. A cylinder axis includes open cylinder base surfaces, whereby the cylinder jacket, with its inside facing the axis of rotation and its outside oriented in the opposite direction, has a length parallel to the axis of rotation of more than twice the outer diameter of the rotational body, and it has a wall thickness that is less than 12.5% of the outer diameter. The fiber-reinforced composite of the cylinder jacket has a layered structure in the radial direction comprising helical layers of fibers which extend along the axis of rotation and whose orientation along the helical fiber angle is less than 35° relative to the axis of rotation.

    摘要: A flywheel for kinetic energy storage and its construction using composite materials. The present invention provides a flywheel assembly having a longitudinal axis and comprising an annular rotor and a rotor support for coupling the rotor to an axial shaft, wherein the rotor comprises fibers in a matrix material, and a ring comprising fibers in a matrix material is mounted on the outer circumference of the rotor support and the rotor is mounted on the outer circumference of the ring, the rotor, rotor support and ring each having longitudinal axes which are coincident with the longitudinal axis of the assembly. The presence of the intermediate ring formed of a composite material assists in the fabrication of the assembly and increases its durability by providing a suitable interface between the rotor and a rotor support.

    摘要: This invention provides for a method to provide the highest possible stored energy density (Watt-hour/kg) in rotating composite flywheels, which in turn will enable an increased application of said devices. Segmented high density (mass loading) materials are positioned and bonded against all free inner surfaces of a high strength low density composite rotor/rim. Traditional composite flywheels do not incorporate mass loading of the composite rotor, i.e., most of the stored energy is contained in the rotating composite rotor. The segmented materials do not fail under the high centrifugal loads, thereby contributing significantly to the overall stored energy density of the composite flywheel system. The high strength composite rotor is engineered to withstand the additional centrifugal loading effects imparted from the segmented masses. An additional benefit from completely loading the inner surface of the composite rotor as uniformly as possible is that it minimizes any unwanted rotor dynamic instabilities.

    摘要: A method of making a magnetically loaded pre-impregnated tape uses a drum 1 that is heated and which is associated with a heated bath 2 containing a thermo-plastic resin solution. A fibre tape material 4 is fed onto the drum 1 and, just prior to the fibre tape material meeting the periphery of the drum, the fibre tape material 4 is impregnated with an isotropic magnetic particle material 6 to form a pre-impregnated tape 8. The pre-impregnated tape is fed to a heating station where it is bonded with a thermoplastic resin impregnated fibre tow to produce a magnetically loaded composite tape. The heating station includes a rotatably driven heated mandrel (20) having a magnetic field (41, 42) embedded therein to provide the pre-impregnated tape (8) with a desired magnetic configuration.

    摘要: A flywheel apparatus has a motor, a drive shaft connected to the motor, an upper conical section affixed to the drive shaft, and a lower conical section affixed to the drive shaft opposite said upper conical section. The upper conical section and lower conical section each have a plurality of layers, including a hollow core positioned adjacent the drive shaft, and alternating layers of tempered rings and non-tempered rings arranged outwardly of the hollow core. The alternating layers of tempered rings and non-tempered rings are joined with a elastomeric adhesive. The plurality of layers further include a hollow cavity positioned outwardly of the alternating layers, and a rim positioned outwardly of said hollow cavity. The hollow cavity can be filled with a fluid such as water, mercury-based fluids, oil-based fluids, or mixtures thereof.

    摘要: A flywheel system includes an annular rim mounted for high speed rotation on a flywheel hub. The hub has a radially splined exterior surface facing radially outwards. The rim includes an annular rim liner having an axis of rotation coinciding with the axis of rotation of the hub, and having an inner surface facing radially inward. The inner surface of the rim liner has integral splines projecting radially inward and extending axially. The rim liner splines mate with the hub splines. The flywheel rim liner has a modulus of elasticity el, and a density ρl, and a liner ratio Rl equal to El/ρl. The flywheel rim has a modulus of elasticity er in the hoop direction and a density ρr; and a rim ratio Rr equal to Er/ρr. The materials and configuration of the rim and rim liner are designed so that Rl is less than or equal to Rr, so said flywheel rim liner grows radially with the rim.
