Preferably, said outer body (1) is made of a plastic material, e.g. injected plastic material, and said at least one reinforcement (1) is connected by means of said outer body (2) to form a single piece.The cover according to the invention is lighter than that conventional covers, given that it is made with less metal and with lighter materials. Moreover, the cover cannot be easily recycled and hence is not at risk of theft.

A modular wall block is formed with two integral, transverse projections extending upwardly from its top surface, spaced from the front face of the block and spaced from each other by an upwardly opening groove. Each block also includes two downwardly opening, transversely extending, grooves of different widths spaced from the front face and spaced from each other by a downwardly extending projection. The width of the downwardly extending projection and the upwardly opening groove are approximately the same and the combined distance between the extreme edges of the two upwardly extending projections is substantially equal to the width of the larger of the two downwardly opening grooves. The height of the upwardly extending projections is equal to or less than the depth of the two downwardly opening grooves. By this arrangement, it is possible to selectively superimpose such blocks in a manner which either positions the front faces of superior blocks in a vertically aligned orientation or a vertically set-back orientation. An optional recessed area located in the upper surface behind the two projections is adapted to receive a grid-like sheet of reinforcing material which is captured therein by the lower surface of a superimposed block. The blocks of this application are dimensioned to be integrated in a retaining wall constructed of a mixture of these blocks and more robust modular wall blocks interconnected by a comb-like device. Multiple wall blocks are simultaneously formed on their side to enhance the high speed molding techniques.

A modular plastic wall block to be used for forming a retaining wall including a plurality of vertically superimposed courses, each course including a plurality of laterally juxtaposed wall blocks. Each wall block is formed of a wall block frame and an easily replaceable facing panel interconnected by a tongue and groove connection. By rotating the facing panel by 90.degree., it can be used to overly and conceal at least a portion of the top of an uppermost course of wall blocks in the retaining wall. The wall blocks include elements for side-to-side connection enabling juxtaposed wall blocks in each course to be laterally aligned to form a straight portion of a face of a retaining wall, or to be angularly positioned to form concave or convex portions of the face of the retaining wall without the formation of gaps between adjacent wall blocks. Spacing tabs are removably carried by each wall block to enable the user to selectively adjust the spacing between the point of engagement between superimposed wall blocks and the front faces of the block below for the formation of vertical or stepped back retaining wall faces.

In an assembly for constructing a multi-tiered retaining wall to support a backfilled embankment, at least one generally planar backfill retaining wall panel has opposed top and bottom edges, and opposed parallel side edges. Each wall panel spans between pairs of transversely spaced posts. Each post is in the form of a rigid elongate column having an upper end, a lower end and opposed side portions. An abutment forming a recessed area extends longitudinally along each side portion of the column for receiving the side edge of the wall panel. A pin element insertable into the column retains the wall panel in place between pairs of columns in the abutment prior to backfilling against a rear surface of the wall panel. A seat at the upper end of the column supports a wall panel of an adjacent higher tier. A saddle at the lower end of the column provides for free-standing support of the column on a wall panel on an adjacent lower tier prior to backfilling. A connector extends from the column for connection to a wire mesh for anchoring the column to the backfilled embankment. The column further provides a wall panel of an upper tier with a predetermined set-back into the embankment in relation to a wall panel in an adjacent lower tier.
