Abstract:
A method and apparatus for impregnating a porous web with a chemical. The impregnating method includes applying a vacuum to one side of the web sufficient to evacuate air from the web, applying impregnating chemical into the web in a selected pattern on the same side of the web, followed by drying the web. The apparatus includes a vacuum chamber for evacuating air from the web, a manifold for applying the impregnating chemical into the web located on the same side of the web as the vacuum chamber and a stencil for restricting the application of the chemical to selected areas of the web.

An apparatus for the application of liquid adhesives to a substrate comprises a supply container for the adhesive and an applicator nozzle which is connected via a conduit to the supply container and has a slit-like outlet opening which communciates via a supply passage with a spreading chamber; at the slit-shaped outlet opening a doctor blade secured by a clamp support is arranged.

Two or more liquid treating agents which are to be applied to a stationary or running substrate are formed ahead of a collecting unit which thereupon admits a foamed compound composition into the applicator wherein the composition passes through the interstices of a screen so that it is reconverted into a liquid prior to contacting the substrate. The collecting unit can comprise or may be followed by a mixer, depending upon whether or not the constituents of the compound composition are to be converted into a homogeneous foam. The collecting unit receives discrete streams of foamed treating compositions, e.g., in the primary colors, from discrete foam generators each of which is followed by a storing device and by a regulating device, such as a valve which is adjustable by hand and/or by a computer. The valves can regulate the rate of flow of foamed treating compositions from the respective storing devices to the collecting unit as well as the rate at which the respective foam generators admit foamed treating compositions to the associated storing devices.

A process and apparatus for the patterned deposition of powdered thermoplastics adhesive material on the outer surface of a textile or other porous-flexible surface form, wherein there is first insertion raked in a pattern of depressions formed in an engraved component an adhesive powder material and then on this powder a further adhesive powder material is insertion raked in the depressions, so that both the powder layers superposed one on the other are taken up by the surface form which is positioned on the engraved component.

Aqueous, low-viscosity, printing fluids comprising an aqueous solution of (A) a thermosetting polyhydroxypolyalkylenepolyureaformaldehyde resin condensate and (B) a water-soluble dye which is compatible with the resin condensate. These printing fluids are useful in high speed paper printing processes.

A method of manufacturing the textile fabric includes coating hygroscopic softener on the textile fabric, printing a predetermined pattern on a surface of the textile fabric by pressing a roller on which the predetermined pattern is embossed, and a water-repellent solution is coated on a surface of the predetermined pattern, and drying the textile fabric.

An apparatus for applying a treatment liquid to a web moving in a predetermined web-travel direction has an applicator element having a surface extending transverse to the direction and positioned to contact the moving web. The liquid is applied to the surface such that the liquid is transferred to the moving web where the moving web contacts the surface. A shield directly engages a portion of the surface between the web and the surface so that where the shield extends between the moving web and the surface there is generally no transfer of the liquid from the surface to the moving web. Formations on the shield conduct the liquid away from edges of the shield.
