    摘要: The invention relates to a method for the preparation of transparent metal oxide pigment, in which a substantial portion of the silicon oxide is dissolved off from silicon dioxide based particles coated with transparent metal oxide, and to a transparent metal oxide pigment prepared by the method. In the extraction methods according to the prior art the problem is that in the extraction a part of the metal oxide is also dissolved, whereby thickness variations impairing the interference color of the metal oxide layer are created. Moreover, in the known methods hard-treated extraction chemicals which are detrimental for the environment are used. These problems have by means of the present invention been solved so that such particles are selected for the dissolution whose silicon dioxide portion is substantially soluble in base and metal oxide portion is substantially insoluble in base, and the dissolution is carried out by base. The silicon dioxide based particles can be selected from the beginning base-soluble particles or they can be made base-soluble by extracting them with mineral acid. The shape of the metal oxide particles obtained through base extraction corresponds fragmentarily to the form of the outer surface of the silicon dioxide based particles and they are in the form of single closed sheets or flakes.

    摘要: High purity hexagonal plate-like .alpha.-Fe.sub.2 O.sub.3, commonly called micaceous iron oxide, is prepared by a hydrothermal treatment of either magnetite or an iron ore, or an iron oxide, of which principal component is magnetite together with an oxidizer in an aqueous alkali solution. Main advantage of this process is a great decrease in the consumption of alkali. Pure magnetite for use in this process can be prepared economically by a hydrothermal treatment of an iron ore, or an oxide, of which principal component is an oxide of trivalent iron in an aqueous alkali solution together with a compound of divalent iron and/or metallic iron.

    摘要: Iron oxides in the form of platelets are produced by hydrothermal treatment of aqueous suspensions containing iron(III) hydroxide or oxide hydrates in the presence of alkali metal hydroxides and of aluminum and/or silicon compounds in two stages. The normality of the alkali is from 0 2 to 2 N in the first stage and is increased by from 0.2 to 2.5 in the second stage.The two-stage process according to the invention makes it possible to produce hematite pigments which are in the form of platelets, have increased luster, larger particle diameter, improved dispersibility and color hues which can be adjusted as desired.
