Disclosed are polyurethanes formed from (A) a polyol component containing dimeric diol and/or trimeric triol and/or a polyether containing dimeric diol units and/or a polyester with OH-terminal groups formed from polcarboxylic acids, preferably dimeric fatty acids or trimeric fatty acids and diols; and (B) an isocyanate component containing prepolymers obtainable from the reaction between polyfunctional isocyanates and dimeric diol and/or trimeric triol and/or a polyether containing dimeric diol units and/or a polyester with OH-terminal groups formed from polycarboxylic acids, preferably dimeric fatty acids or trimeric fatty acids and diols; at least one of the components (A) and (B) contain dimeric or trimeric fatty acid or dimeric or trimeric fatty alcohol. The proposed polyurethanes have excellent resistance to tear propagation.

An alkoxylate adduct of a polyol. The polyol is an amorphous diol having a melting point above about 100null C. The alkoxylate is propylene oxide, butylene oxide, a mixture of propylene oxide and butylene oxide or a mixture of one or both of propylene oxide and butylene oxide with up to 50 mole % of ethylene oxide. The first polyol has an average of from about 1 to about 5 units of alkoxylate per mole of said amorphous diol. The adduct is useful in preparing urethane (meth)acrylate capped resins and compositions thereof. Resins prepared from such adducts have better manufacturing and solubility properties while retaining similar physical properties to resins prepared from the unadducted diol. The adduct may be for instance a propoxylate of hydrogenated bisphenol A having an average of from 1.5 to 3.5 moles of PO per mole of hydrogenated bisphenol A.

High solids, solvent-based resin composition comprises novel chain-extendable, crosslinkable urethane modified polyhydroxy oligomers, crosslinking agent and, preferably, catalyst(s). The composition cures at elevated temperature to provide a coating on a substrate, such as steel, which is highly resistant to corrosion, humidity and solvents and provides corrosion protection for the substrate. The novel oligomers can be the reaction product of a polyol with a half-blocked diisocyanate, wherein said polyol comprises three or more hydroxy, and the half-blocked diisocyanate comprises the reaction product of an organic diisocyanate with approximately one molar equivalent of a monofunctional blocking agent.
