    Abstract: The present disclosure presents systems and methods for assisting a crane operator. An imaging system automatically images each building material object contained within a shakeout field on a construction site and processes the images to determine each object's identifying indicium and its geometric properties. These values are compared with a construction site database to ensure that all necessary building materials are present. A positioning device tracks, in real time, the location of the imaging system, the location of structural members within the shakeout field, and/or other important features of the job site, such as obstacles that the crane operator will need to avoid while lifting a structural member from its initial location to its destination location. Real-time images of the construction site, including indications of the next building material object to be hoisted and/or a path between the object's initial and final locations, can be generated to guarantee that the crane operator hoists the expected object to the expected location.

    Abstract: One variation of a method for monitoring lift events at a construction site includes: deriving a lifting profile from a first timeseries of load values, output by a load sensor coupled to a crane hook, during a first time period; deriving an oscillation characteristic from a first timeseries of motion values, output by a motion sensor coupled to the crane hook, during the first time period; identifying a type of an object carried by the crane hook during the first time period based on the lifting profile and the oscillation characteristic; selecting a load handling specification for the object based on the type of the object; accessing a second timeseries of motion values output by the motion sensor during a second time period; and, in response to the second timeseries of motion values deviating from the load handling specification, activating an object motion alarm for the object.

    Abstract: Provided is a crane and a control method capable of preventing an irregular winding from being caused, without significant deterioration in work efficiency. The crane includes an allowable deceleration rate derivation unit and a winch control unit. The allowable deceleration rate derivation unit derives an allowable deceleration rate representing an allowable value of the deceleration rate of the winding of a suspension rope, from a measured load that is a suspension load measured by a load measurement device. The allowable deceleration rate derivation unit derives the allowable deceleration rate that is decreased with a decrease in the measured load. The winch control unit makes the winding of the suspension rope by a winch device decelerated at a deceleration rate limited within a range equal to or less than the allowable deceleration rate.
