    摘要: A joint structure includes first and second engagement members, and an elastic member. The first engagement member includes a first body and a first engagement claw. The second engagement member includes a second body and a second engagement claw. The elastic member is disposed between the first and second engagement portions in a circumferential direction. When a relative rotation angle between the first and second engagement members is less than a predetermined angle, the first and second engagement claws are not in direct contact with each other in the circumferential direction, and a rotational force is transmitted through the elastic member while the elastic member is being elastically deformed. When the relative rotation angle is equal to the predetermined angle, the first and second engagement claws are in direct contact with each other in the circumferential direction.

    摘要: This invention is designed as an accessory for vehicles which provides added road feel and reduced steering wander. It provides additional support to the sector shaft in a vehicle steering gear-box by adding an outboard support bearing below the pitman arm. It is typically comprised of an additional crossmember, replacement sector shaft nut, bearing assembly and mounting plates. The outboard bearing reduces play and flex in the sector shaft, and thus improves vehicle handling.

    摘要: An apparatus (10) for use in turning steerable vehicle wheels includes a rack gear (14) and a sector gear (16) which are disposed in meshing engagement. A lash adjustment assembly (46) is operable to move the sector gear (16) to reduce clearance between teeth (18 and 20) on the rack and sector gears upon rotation of the sector gear to an initial or on-center condition. The lash adjustment assembly (46) includes a force transmitting member (60) having a threaded end portion (90) which engages threads (92) on the sector gear (16). A power spring (100) is connected with the force transmitting member (60) and stores energy to rotate the force transmitting member relative to the sector gear (16). When the sector gear (16) moves to the on-center condition, an index pin (150) is moved relative to an index wheel (138) to release the force transmitting member (60) for rotation through a predetermined distance relative to the sector gear (16). When the force transmitting member (60) has rotated through the predetermined distance, an index pin (152) retains the index wheel (138) and force transmitting member against rotation.

    摘要: A nut on a helically threaded steering shaft, held against rotation, carries a first set of involute teeth meshing with a second set of involute teeth on an adjoining gear sector which pivots on an axis skew to that of the shaft. The two sets of teeth have centers of curvature offset from the sector axis but aligned with that axis in a midposition in which they engage each other without play; upon a shift of the nut to either side, the tooth clearance or backlash increases progressively while the transmission ratio either increases or decreases, depending upon the relative positions of the two centers of curvature and the sector axis. In a limiting case, the radius of curvature of one set of teeth is infinite.
