Abstract: A gearbox assembly includes a housing, an output shaft, a wheel gear, an input shaft, a torsion bar, an electric motor, a worm gear and a key lock. The wheel gear may be fixed to the output shaft for engagement with a wheel gear. The torsion bar may connect the input shaft to the output shaft. The worm gear may be rotationally fixed to the rotor and engages the wheel gear to transfer torque from the motor to the output shaft. The key lock may include an adapter, an annular outer part, a web, and a locking collar. The key lock may be fixed to the housing and is movable between an extended position in which a part of the key lock engages the locking collar and a retracted position in which the part is held clear of the locking collar.

Abstract: A bearing adjustment assembly is provided. The assembly includes a worm engaged with a worm gear. The assembly also includes a worm bearing located proximate an end of the worm. The assembly further includes a spring disposed in a spring bore defined by the housing. The assembly yet further includes a compensation mechanism engaging the worm bearing and the spring, the compensation mechanism being adjustable to bias the worm bearing to maintain or adjust a gear mesh load between the worm gear and the worm, wherein compression of the spring adjusts the compensation mechanism biasing of the worm bearing. Abstract: Methods and systems for analyzing and/or calibrating an adaptive steering system are disclosed. One method may include rotating a hub that is configured to engage a steering shaft over a predetermined range of hub angles using a gear and an internal electric motor in response to a control signal. A torque required to rotate the hub as a function of the hub angles may be determined, as well as whether the torque is within a predefined torque window. The method may be used to analyze the overall friction in the adaptive steering wheel assembly. In one embodiment, the method may be performed with the steering wheel assembly fully assembled and the internal electric motor covered and inaccessible. The torque may be determined by calculating the torque based on a current draw of the internal electric motor.
