    摘要: A cargo container system is provided having selectively deployable and retractable support and/or wheel assemblies. The wheel assemblies are capable of being retracted upwardly while the landing assembly is capable of being deployed downwardly and/or retracted upwardly, e.g., during storage or shipment of the cargo container system (e.g., during sea travel or rail travel). At an appropriate time (e.g., the cargo container system is about to placed onto the ground or other surface by a crane or other suitable device), the wheel assemblies are then selectively deployed downwardly while the landing gear assembly is capable of being retracted upwardly and/or deployed downwardly, e.g., to provide a fully functional cargo container system/trailer/chassis combination that may be immediately capable of being engaged to a truck/tractor/chassis and driven away.

The Π-shaped transverse cross-section bears and distributes stress imposed on the primary body construction. The C-shaped channel construction preferably includes a series of apertures for reducing weight and controlling elastic response of the primary body construction. Among these apertures are edge-based apertures, arm-based stress relief slots, and aligned apertures having sequentially decreasing diameters.

    摘要: A rail-road intermodal freight system. In an embodiment, a plurality of L-cars are provided. In an embodiment, each L-car may be configured for support at its forward end on a preceding L-car, and at a rear base on a set of flanged rail wheels. In implementing the system, a freight yard is provided with rail components which are switchable to enable decoupling and a turn-in-place operation, wherein each care is lifted from the preceding L-car in the train, and the neck portion of the L-car lowered to the ground. When in the lowered position, downwardly extending legs on the over-the-road trailer enable an over-the-road tractor to attach the over-the-road trailer in conventional fashion, for removal of the over-the-road tailer from the L-car. Loading of an over-the-road trailer on the L-car takes place via a reverse process, wherein the trailer is backed up on to the L-car.

    摘要: A rail bogie for hooking with semi-trailers and the like road vehicles comprises a truck having a wheel-mounted chassis and a fifth-wheel frame above the chassis. Power jacks or inflatable balloons are mounted between this chassis and the frame for moving the latter vertically between a low and a high positions relative to the chassis. There is also provided a locking combination on the frame and on the chassis capable of holding the frame releasably locked to the chassis when the said frame has reached the high position aforesaid. The bogie also includes a horizontal fifth-wheel support mounted on the frame for pivotal movement about a vertical axis whereby to allow it to sway laterally and a fifth-wheel is mounted at the other end of the support. The bogie further includes an assembly automatically centering the first wheel on the frame when the latter reaches its high position.
