Abstract: A system is disclosed for driving an actuator which comprises a chamber, a shutter of an injection nozzle for molten material for injection molding, and a piston translatable inside the chamber to actuate a shutter. Means are provided for the transfer of a predetermined amount of fluid between the outside and inside of the chamber, so as to bring/move the shutter from a closing position, in which there is no passage of molten material, towards an opening position, in which there is passage of molten material, by injecting the predetermined amount of fluid from the outside into the chamber or by injecting the predetermined amount of fluid from the chamber towards the outside, or vice versa.

Abstract: An injection apparatus for injecting molten plastic into a mold of articles made of thermoplastic material including bottle preforms. The injection apparatus includes an injection nozzle and a shutter for controlling flow of the molten plastic through the injection nozzle. A cylinder-piston system moves the shutter from open and closed positions of the injection nozzle. The cylinder-piston system includes a first chamber with a first passage for introducing fluid into the first chamber to open the shutter, and a second passage, different from the first passage, for discharge of fluid and of possible particles from the first chamber. A fluid distribution device with a first channel is connected to the first passage, and a second channel different from the first channel is connected to the second passage. The cylinder-piston system includes a second chamber having a third passage for introducing fluid into the second chamber to close the shutter.

The shut-off needle is connected to a piston in a force-fitting or form-fitting manner and is inserted into the injection nozzle (3a). At least one valve (7a) for opening the needle (6a) and at least one valve (8a) for closing the needle (6a) are provided, such that the valve (7a) and the valve (8a) are arranged directly adjacent to the shut-off needle (6a). A control unit for the valve (7a) and the valve (8a) is also provided.

Abstract: A linear actuator for use in an injection molding apparatus is provided. The linear actuator comprises an electric motor including a drive shaft; an anti-rotation mechanism including a restrictor and a captive member, the captive member attached to the pin, the restrictor and the captive member arranged for translating a rotational motion of the drive shaft to a linear motion of the captive member, and by extension the pin, relative to the restrictor; and an adapter coupling the drive shaft with the captive member to enable the drive shaft to transmit the rotational motion of the drive shaft and to be readily decoupleable from the captive member without needing to separate the captive member from the pin.

Abstract: Apparatus and methods for storage and transmission of recipe data (process parameters) for the molding of articles in an injection molding apparatus. A controller includes a flow control microcontroller (MCU) that receives recipe data from a recipe storage microcontroller (MCU) mounted to a mold of an injection molding machine, the recipe storage MCU storing the recipe data defining process parameters for the molding of articles in the mold. The flow control MCU executes instructions for controlling valve pin motions according to the recipe data. In one embodiment, a human operator interface is provided for transmitting data to and/or from at least one of the recipe storage and flow control MCU's, allowing the operator to monitor, modify and/or control the process parameters during a molding cycle and/or to create a modified or new recipe for subsequent storage on the recipe storage MCU.

Abstract: An injection molding apparatus including:a valve pin driven by an actuator, the valve pin extending axially through at least a portion of the channel length of the fluid flow channel, the fluid flow channel including a throat, downstream flow of the injection fluid being restricted by a bulb portion of the pin, the valve pin having an intermediate position where downstream flow of injection fluid is unrestricted and a fully downstream position where downstream flow of injection fluid is stopped at both the gate and at the throat, wherein the actuator is driven by a valve assembly comprised of a spool mechanically driven by first and second actuators or solenoids that each separately engage the spool at opposing axial ends to effect movement of the spool back and forth between the drive fluid flow positions.

Abstract: An injection molding system comprising: a first selected valve, one or more downstream valves, delivering a fluid to a mold cavity, at least one fluid property sensor, each valve associated with a position sensor that detects opening of a gate at an actual open gate time to the controller, the controller automatically adjusting time of instruction to open the gates on a subsequent injection cycle by an adjustment time equal to any delay in time between a predetermined open gate target time and an actual open gate time, wherein the system forms a first one or more parts or objects, the user inspecting or measuring the first one or more parts or objects and manually adjusts the predetermined open gate target time.

Abstract: Apparatus and method for performing an injection molding cycle in an injection molding apparatus where the apparatus comprises: a manifold, an actuator associated with a respective gate, each gate having a downstream sensor generating a response signal upon sensing a selected condition of the injection fluid material, each gate having an upstream sensor generating a response signal upon sensing the selected condition of the injection fluid material, the upstream and downstream sensors sending response signals to a controller on performance of each successive injection cycle by the apparatus, the controller comparing a standard amount of elapsed time with a calculated amount of elapsed time and adjusting the velocity or position of each of the actuators such that the amount of time elapsed approaches or matches the standard amount of elapsed time.
