Abstract:
Table saw blade guards, splitter assemblies, attachments, accessories, and table saws including the same. The splitter assemblies include a splitter and a blade guard that is coupled to the splitter. The blade guards include a top guard. In some embodiments, the top guard is configured to be a hold-down guard. In some embodiments, the top guard is pivotally coupled to the splitter. In some embodiments, the top guard is adjustably coupled to the splitter. In some embodiments, the top guard is secured in a fixed orientation relative to the splitter. In some embodiments, the top guard includes a portion that is secured in a fixed orientation to the splitter and a portion that is pivotal relative to the splitter.
Abstract:
A miter saw is provided. The miter saw includes a table for supporting a workpiece; a fence located on the table; and a beveling arm for supporting a saw blade, the fence operatively connected to the arm to move the fence when the blade is beveled so that the blade does not contact the fence when the blade is moved toward the table. A method of locating a workpiece near a saw blade is provided. The method may include moving an adjustable section of fence near a path the saw blade will travel by beveling the saw blade; and moving a workpiece to contact the fence near the saw blade path.
Abstract:
A woodworking machine is disclosed. The machine includes a cutting tool and a motor adapted to drive the cutting tool. The machine further includes a detection system to detect a dangerous condition between the cutting tool and a person, such as a person coming into contact with the cutting tool. A reaction system is provided to disable the cutting tool, such as by covering, blocking, destroying, wrapping, etc., upon detection by the detection system of the dangerous condition.
Abstract:
A machine is disclosed having a detection subsystem adapted to detect contact between a person and a specified portion of the machine, and to distinguish that contact from contact with other materials. The detection subsystem imparts an electrical signal to a specified portion of the machine, and distinguishes that contact based on a predetermined frequency response of the electrical signal. A reaction subsystem then causes a predetermined action to take place. The machine may be a power saw designed to minimize injury in the event a person accidentally contacts the blade.
Abstract:
A saw including a base, a trunnion pivotally attached to the base, a pivot arm pivotally attached to the trunnion, a saw assembly supported by the pivot arm, the saw assembly including a motor, a blade driven by the motor, an upper blade guard for covering an upper part of the blade, and at least one of a lower blade guard pivotally attached to the upper blade guard for covering a lower part of the blade and a rear blade guard attached to the upper blade guard, and a fence assembly comprising a fixed fence attached to the base, and a movable fence movably attached to the fixed fence, wherein the movable fence has a stepped portion for limiting lateral movement of the at least one of the lower blade guard and the rear blade guard.
Abstract:
An apparatus for handling bar-like workpiece material in a sawing machine, in particular in the form of a miter-box saw, whichhas a clamping carriage that is disposed on the machine frame above the workpiece table and is movable horizontally and parallel to the feed direction of the workpiece material. On one workpiece side, the clamping carriage has two openable and closable bearing jaws, and facing them in the direction of the workpiece material it has three openable and closable clamping jaws disposed beside one another in the material feed direction. The openable and closing jaws are coordinated such that a stock material is held in place for sawing a measured piece and then the cut piece and stock material are moved together to a position for the nextcut length. The cut piece is then moved and released. The steps are repeated to cut the next and successive pieces.
Abstract:
An apparatus adapted for use with a power jointer having a bed and rotatable cutting blade provides precise, finish cuts on the end edges of boards so as to form good joints in picture frames, window casings, door casings and the like. The apparatus includes a fixed support rail mounted atop the bed and above the cutting blade. A holder, movable with respect to the bed along the support rail, clamps the board on end so that its end edge is disposed substantially parallel to and immediately above the bed for movement over the cutting blade to plane the end edge. Several holders according to this invention are utilized to obtain the desired angle of cut on the end edge of the board. Each separate holder includes at least one clamping surface disposed at an angle relative to the bed, e.g., 90.degree., 45.degree. or 221/2.degree., against which the side edge of the board is mounted to obtain a finish cut of the desired angle at the end edge of the board.
Abstract:
Circular saws having a blade that moves relative to a stationary base structure during operative use of the circular saws to cut a workpiece and methods of detecting a kickback condition of such circular saws. The circular saws include a base structure, a user-actuated assembly, an attachment structure, and a controller. The attachment structure is configured to permit constrained relative motion between the base structure and the user-actuated assembly in a motion direction and during operative use of the circular saw to cut the workpiece. A motion sensor is configured to generate a motion signal indicative of motion of the user-actuated assembly along the motion direction. The controller is programmed to initiate a kickback response of the circular saw responsive to the motion signal being indicative of a kickback condition of the circular saw.
Abstract:
A machine-driven saw blade comprising (1) a blade body having a blade body edge including a plurality of primary saw teeth for cutting during blade movement in a first direction, the primary teeth spaced at a primary tooth pitch and each having a primary tooth tip and primary-tooth leading and trailing edges and (2) at least one secondary saw tooth on the trailing edge of a subset of primary saw teeth, the at least one secondary saw tooth having a secondary tooth tip and a secondary-tooth leading edge configured for cutting during blade movement in a second direction opposite the first direction.
