    Abstract: A cutting insert for cutting, milling or drilling of metal includes a body having an elongate recess extending along at least a portion of the body, a first layer covering interior side walls of the recess, and a sensor arrangement. The body includes a substrate. The sensor arrangement includes sa lead extending along the recess. The lead includes electrically conductive material, which is arranged in the recess such that the first layer is located between the electrically conductive material and the substrate. For at least a depth below which at least a portion of the electrically conductive material is arranged in the recess, a width of the recess measured at that depth between portions of the first layer covering opposite interior side walls of the recess is less than or equal to 80 micrometers.

    Abstract: A coated tool includes a base and a coating film on the base. The coating film includes an Al2O3 layer, and a surface layer on the Al2O3 layer. The surface layer has a first erosion rate of 0.1 μm/min or less. The first erosion rate is obtained from measurement by causing a liquid A, in which 3 mass % of amorphous Al2O3 particles having a mean particle diameter of 1.1-1.3 μm is dispersed in purified water, to collide with the surface layer. The surface layer has a second erosion rate of 2.0 μm/min or more. The second erosion rate is obtained from measurement by causing a liquid B, in which 3 mass % of spherical Al2O3 particles having a mean particle diameter of 2.8-3.2 μm is dispersed in purified water, to collide with the surface layer.

    Abstract: A coated hole cutter including an ink-based colored coating applied only to the external surface of the cylindrical blade body of the hole cutter, but not to the surfaces of a circumferentially-extending cutting edge or to the interior surface of the blade body. The ink-based color coating is an ultraviolet activated ink that cures when the coating is exposed to a specific ultraviolet light intensity and wavelength. At least the surfaces of the cutting edge and the internal surface of the blade body, which do not include the coating, have a steam tempered oxide finish that imparts a color that contrasts with the color imparted by the coating.
