Abstract:
An apparatus and a method are provided for a heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) home air filter to remove airborne molecular contaminants and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from air within residential spaces. The HVAC home air filter a supportive frame having a shape and size suitable to orient the HVAC home air filter within a residential HVAC system. A filter medium is retained within the supportive frame to remove the airborne molecular contaminants and VOCs from air flowing through the residential HVAC system. The filter medium is a combination of media layers configured to exhibit a relatively high filtration efficiency and a low air pressure drop across the filter medium. The supportive frame comprises a plurality of elongate sections and corner sections disposed along perimeter edges of the filter medium to support the filter medium within the residential HVAC system so as direct air through the filter medium.
Abstract:
An exhaust unit includes a dirty air intake opening, a clean air output opening and an airflow path defined between the dirty air intake opening and the clean air output opening. The exhaust unit further includes an upstream quenching section and a downstream filtering section along the airflow path. The quenching section has a wetting chamber that includes a reservoir having a fill level for a quenching liquid, and a downtube connected over the dirty air intake opening and opening at its end above, and in opposition to, the plane of the fill level.
Abstract:
In order to provide a method of introducing auxiliary material into the flow path of a crude gas stream charged with wet-paint overspray before the crude gas stream passes through at least one filter element for separating the overspray from the crude gas stream, with which method an introduction of auxiliary material into the application region of a paint shop is reliably prevented even in the event of incorrect operation, a method is proposed, which comprises the following method steps: detecting whether there is an adequate crude gas flow through the at least one filter element; and blocking the introduction of auxiliary material into the flow path of the crude gas stream if it is determined that there is not an adequate crude gas flow.
Abstract:
A coated, reticulated foam air filter for filtering air suitable for respiration is described. The air filter comprises a reticulated foam structure and a nontoxic tackified coating applied to a functional surface of the foam structure.
Abstract:
Air filter embodiments include a frame that can be placed within an air flow. The air filter may also include one or more tape segments of an air-impervious adhesive tape. The tape segment can have a primary surface on which an adhesive material has been deposited, and a secondary surface opposite the primary surface. The tape segment can be supported on the frame such that an exposed portion of the primary surface is exposed to the air flow. Accordingly, at least some of the particulates in the air flow may adhere to the exposed portion of the primary surface, and thus be removed from the air flow. In some embodiments a conventional filter is also provided within the frame, and thus the invention may provide a replacement air filter for existing installations where replacement air filters are used.
Abstract:
An all natural filter assembly without toxic materials for use in an air filtration unit is provided. The filter assembly for use in an air filtration unit includes a support frame and a disposable grease filter disposed across said support frame. The disposable grease filter is formed of wool fiber coated with a bonding agent comprising a natural soy, whey and/or linseed solution. Also provided is a disposable grease filter blanket, which includes a wool fiber woven, non-woven or needle punched blanket coated with a bonding agent of a natural soy, whey and/or linseed solution. The filter blanket can be coated with approximately 0.3 grams to 2.0 grams of bonding agent per square meter of wool fiber.
Abstract:
The invention provides a filter treated with a humectant which may optionally be in combination with a surfactant. The treatment may also include a water soluble rheology modifier to alter the viscosity of water drawn onto the filter by the humectant. A tackifier may also be added. The invention also provides compositions suitable for application to a filter to carry out the treatment. The invention provides a method of “upgrading” a filter using the treatments and compositions described.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for removing particulate matter and undesirable vapors from a gas stream are provided. In one aspect, an apparatus includes at least one ionizing electrode that negatively charges the particulate matter and condensed droplets of undesirable vapors, at least one scrubbing element including a collecting surface, and at least one liquid applicator operable to apply a liquid film to the collecting surface, wherein a positive charge is applied to the liquid film to attract negatively-charged particulate matter and/or condensed droplets of undesirable vapors to the collecting surface. In another aspect, a method includes the steps of: negatively charging the particulate matter and condensed droplets of undesirable vapors using at least one ionizing electrode; applying a liquid film to a collecting surface proximate the ionizing electrode; and positively charging the liquid film to attract the negatively-charged particulate matter and condensed droplets of undesirable vapors.
Abstract:
The invention related to dust filters (1) which are especially used in operations endangered by gases and comprise filter elements (10) rendered antistatic by means of derivative constituents such as carbon fibres, salts or special steel fibres (26, 27). Said filter material (10) is connected to the housing frame (14) by means of conductors (16), bypassing the seal (15), in such a way that a negative electrical charge of the inner chamber of the individual filter element (10) or the dust filter (1) is avoided.
Abstract:
A filter element is made of a first filtering member, and a second filtering member that is arranged on a downstream side of the first filtering member and is impregnated with an oil. The first filtering member consists of a downstream wet layer that is impregnated with the oil, which is transferred by contact to the second filtering member, and an upstream dry layer that is not impregnated with the oil. A density of the first filtering member may be set smaller than that of the second filtering member.
