A filter cartridge includes a substantially cylindrical filter media and a pressure relieving structure. The filter media is adapted to allow fluid to pass from an exterior of the filter media to an interior space of the filter media. The pressure relieving structure is disposed at an upper end of the filter media, and the pressure relieving structure opens when a predetermined pressure level is established across the filter media to maintain the predetermined pressure across the filter media.

A filter includes filter media and a housing surrounding the media. The housing has an outlet and is sealed such that all fluid flow out of the outlet must first enter the cartridge and pass through the media. The housing has multiple inlet flow paths configured so that fluid impinging on the housing is diffused as it enters the cartridge and is prevented from flowing directly towards the filter media.

The invention relates to a filter device with a filter housing (10) and a first filter element (12), arranged therein through which a medium may flow in a given direction and with a bypass device (22). Along with the first filter element (12), a further second filter element (32) is provided, said filter elements (32) are arranged in series, one behind the other, in the direction of flow and, on the bypass device (22) being activated, the further filter element (32), immediately following in the direction of flow, carries out a filtration of the medium. The further filter element thus takes over the main filtration of the medium on actuation and operation of the bypass device as the first filter element is essentially no longer available for a filtration process due to the bypass device.

Single and multiple porous media impingement type air filter elements are disposed in filter housings which provide access to the filter elements from top opening doors or plenums in the housing for service or repair of the elements. Housing sections defining the plenums are provided with mechanism to lift and swing the housing sections clear of the filter opening, and the housing sections are movable to relieve excess working pressure differentials across the filter element. In two embodiments the filter elements are each in sealing engagement with a shield which is also sealingly engaged with a top wall or door of the filter housing to minimize contamination of personnel servicing or replacing the filter elements. Clean air is discharged through a downwardly extending clean air flow tube into a discharge plenum or chamber and particulate material separated from the air flow stream falls into a material collecting hopper portion which may be defined in part by a sloping wall separating the clean air flow chamber from the particulate material collection chamber. Filter element backflushing air control valves may be located in the bottom of the filter housing to enhance the accessibility of the filter elements from the top of the housing and to minimize overall height of the filter apparatus.

A reverse air jet cleaning system for impingement or porous media type air filter elements includes one or more specifically shaped cleaning air manifolds or heads in which a plurality of jet nozzles or orifices are arranged in a predetermined pattern to provide a totally enveloping air jet which is discharged into a flow tube immediately downstream of the clean air flow chamber of a generally tubular filter element. The jet pattern provides a temporary pressure seal within the flow tube and entrains a substantial amount of ambient air into the reverse flow jet to thoroughly flush or flood the filter element to clean the dust cake from the exterior surface of the element. The multiple jet arrangement reduces the overall space occupied by the reverse jet cleaning system and provides a larger mass flow of cleaning air to thoroughly flush the surfaces of the filter element. The multiple jet orifice heads or manifolds may be configured in virtually any geometric shape to provide the desired jet pattern and are not limited to use in conjunction with cylindrical tubular type filter elements.

A granular bed filter device comprising two gas-permeable walls bounding an annular filter bed disposed in a housing. The walls extend downwardly in a taper together and are inclined upwardly toward the central axis of the filter bed. A nozzle tube projects from above into the housing and has nozzles which are directed against the inner wall of the filter bed. In order to regenerate the dust-laden filter bed, compressed air is blown intermittently through the nozzle tube while at the same time the nozzle tube is set in motion by a motor. The accumulations of dust contained in the filter bed are ejected in agglomerated form through the outer wall and fall down into the region of a discharging conveyor.

A cell filter apparatus of the bag or stocking type having a housing is disclosed. A gas deflector and boundary wall between a raw gas duct and a dust chamber upstream from the filter cells form a tapering duct having an outlet passage for coarse dust particles at its narrow end. Either the deflector or the boundary wall is pivoted so that the size of the outlet passage can vary so as to remove coarse dust from the outlet passage. A gas blast for cleaning the filter cells in a direction to move the pivoted element so that the outlet passage is varied and cleaned.
Abstract:
An erosion-resistant sand screen assembly is described for use in petroleum wells of the type in which sand tends to become entrained in the stream of petroleum entering the wellbore. The assembly is especially useful in cased holes in formations which consist of very find sand, such as have been encountered in the Gulf Coast region of the United States and off the east coast of Trinidad. The assembly uses a sleeve with an erosion-resistant wall at least one-fourth inch thick, positioned around the outside layer of wire screen. Preferably, the assembly has an outer surface of a resilient elastomeric material.
