A preferred embodiment comprises a multi compartment container, the compartments separated by baffles, having a serviceable solids strainer in a first compartment, a second compartment having a cogged belt for FOG removal and collection, a third compartment for collection of clarified effluent, and a fourth compartment for tertiary treatment of the gray water effluent, for example, the introduction of biotechnology. The unique baffle configuration prevents biotechnology backflow migration from the fourth compartment with resulting bacterial contamination of the FOG.

The system is self-contained within a standard shipping container, with all components disposed in-line within the shipping container. Float is removed from the flotation tank with a skimmer that drives float downstream onto a conveyor belt, and the conveyor belt conveys float away from the flotation tank, in the downstream direction, and deposits the float in a collection tank. Clean water may be drawn from the flotation tank continuously, while float may be removed periodically.

The matter is removed by discharging from near the tank orifice rim a plurality (n) of jets of the fluid towards the fluid surface center. Any matter on the fluid surface is thereby urged toward the tank orifice rim and eventually removed from the fluid surface by the fluid overflow. In one application, the tank comprises a dip tank and the fluid comprises photoreceptor coating solution or components thereof such as solvents, additives, or both.

Components, usually but not exclusively gaseous components, are removed in a liquid medium from gas streams and chemically converted into an insoluble phase or physically removed. Specifically, hydrogen sulfide may be removed from gas streams by oxidation in aqueous chelated transition metal solution in a modified agitated flotation cell. The same principal may be employed in other procedures in which a gaseous phase is dispersed in a liquid phase to effect an interaction between components present in such phases. A gas-liquid contact apparatus, generally a combined chemical reactor and solid product separation device, comprising such modified agitated flotation cell is also described. In order to effect mass transfer and rapid reaction gas bubbles containing hydrogen sulfide and oxygen are formed by rotating an impeller at a blade tip velocity of at least about 350 in/sec. to achieve the required shear. To assist in the reaction, a surrounding shroud has a plurality of openings, generally of aspect ratio of approximately 1, of equal diameter and arranged in uniform pattern, such as to provide a gas flow therethrough less than about 0.02 lb/min/opening in the shroud. In general, the gas velocity index of gas through the openings in the shroud is at least about 18 per second per opening. Each of the openings has an area corresponding to an equivalent diameter of less than about one inch.

A two stage raw water clarifier with first stage flotation and second stage filtration divides at least the lower portion of a flotation tank into independent cells. A branched slotted conduit located in a filter medium in each cell collects clarified water. Valves control the flow of clarified water from each branched conduit either to a clarified water ring conduit or to a first filtrate/backwash ring conduit connected to a storage tank. The filter media is preferably a dual media, a layer of anthracite or activated carbon over a layer of sand. High cell walls and inclined baffles in each cell retain the filter media during backwashing. The baffles also slow the flotation process. A decompression valve for pressurized water with dissolved air has a very narrow annular slot in the flow path through the valve to create microscopic air bubbles of optimal size for the flotation. A movable member sets this annular slot at a proper value. A mechanical or pneumatic actuator moves the member periodically to open the slot and flush out trapped particles.

A particle separator apparatus includes a pond and a separation vault, which receive a runoff stream. The vault includes an entrance for the runoff stream, the entrance having a primary skimmer thereabout for removing floating objects from the stream. A holding chamber is provided for catching and holding particulate matter as the particulate matter drops out of the runoff stream. The holding chamber includes a plate module, having plural corrugated plates spaced apart from one another therein, for providing the aerobic and anaerobic treatment to stabilize the runoff stream. A final skimmer is located at the rear of the vault, and includes a final skimmer plate which directs floating objects to a floating hose, which removes any remaining floating objects from the runoff stream.
