摘要： A baseball or softball bat and a method for manufacturing the bat are provided. The bat includes a batting portion formed of wood into a cylindrical shape, and a bat main body made of a fiber-reinforced plastic. A part of the bat main body is inserted in the batting portion from an open end of the batting portion, and the rest of the bat main body is exposed from the batting portion. The bat further includes a suppressing member arranged on an outer circumference of the bat main body. The suppressing member prevents change of orientation of fibers in the fiber-reinforced plastic. The suppressing member is positioned so as to contact a step formed between the outer circumference of the bat main body and an outer circumference of the batting portion at the open end of the batting portion.

The end cap includes an end wall and an annular wall proximally extending from an inner surface of the end wall. The annular wall is configured to engage an inner surface of a distal end region of the sleeve. The annular wall defines at least one through-wall opening configured for facilitating flow of the adhesive through and about the annular wall during the coupling of the end cap to the barrel portion.

摘要： A bat having different stiffnesses in different planes relative to a longitudinal axis (i.e., swing axis) of the bat. More specifically, the bat includes a greater stiffness in a vertical plane as compared to relatively more flexible stiffness in a swing plane. This differential stiffness may be accomplished with an intermediate material located within an internal space defined where a handle affixes to a barrel of the bat or alternatively with a transitional member structurally arranged between the handle and the barrel of the bat. The transitional member may provide for vibration and/or shock dampening to minimize or eliminate the “sting” typically associated with monolithic, metallic bats. Additionally, the handle may include a shape that tends to naturally align the vertical and swing planes of the bat when the handle is gripped by a player.

The layers are separated by a first separation configured to allow for independent movement between the layers upon impact with the ball. The sleeve is coupled to the handle portion. A portion of the sleeve is separated from the inner layer by a second separation within the range of 0.030 to 0.125 inch when measured radially from the axis. Upon impact, the barrel portion deflects inwardly such that the inner wall operably engages the sleeve. The cap is coupled to the sleeve and to the barrel portion.

摘要： The handle portion (the initial 18″) of the bat is formed with a spiral groove with succeeding revolutions spaced by a distance in the range of between ¼″ and ½″. A 30 lb test fishing line is secured in the groove by adhesive and the handle is coated with an non-drip epoxy which is then over coated with elastomer which is preferably shavings from recycled tires. The finished handle is created by sanding the elastomer to form a smooth grip which is contiguous with the initial end of the bat's barrel.

The audible indicator includes a sound-producing body affixed to a barrel portion of the shaft, and an impact-producing body movably mounted along the shaft so as to strike the sound-producing body and produce a noticeable sound in response to the training bat apparatus undergoing a dry swing relative to a pitched ball. The visual indicator is provided in a radial position along a longitudinal side, and relative to a longitudinal axis, of the shaft for enabling placement of a batter's hands in a given proper tandem grip about a handgrip portion of the shaft. Provision of these indicators and their functioning enable the batter to undergo effective dry batting training using the training bat apparatus in conjunction with a pitcher and catcher undergoing respective pitching and receiving training in a bullpen session.
