Abstract:
In a modular medicament delivery system, a dispenser housing has a support block with a well and an orifice communicating with the well. A first container assembly includes a valve stem shaped to be received by the well in the support block. The first container assembly has a first exterior shape. A second container assembly includes a valve stem shaped to be received by the well in the support block. The second container assembly has a second exterior shape that is different than the first exterior shape. An insert member is adapted for mounting to the dispenser housing in the cavity and defines an interior space shaped to receive the second exterior shape of the second container. Methods of assembling the system, a system kit and a device are also provided. A medication delivery device includes first and second end pieces and a collapsible chamber disposed therebetween.
Abstract:
A medical aerosol delivery device comprises a housing having a first opening and a second opening and defining a fluid passage between the first and second openings. The housing comprising a pressurized medical aerosol canister actuator having a canister receptacle disposed within the fluid passage and having a valve chamber comprising a fine bore nozzle positioned to direct atomized medicament toward the first opening. The fluid passage includes an annular portion bypassing the canister receptacle and the housing comprises a movable closure member for selectively obstructing the fluid passage.
Abstract:
A drug delivery apparatus comprising: a drug delivery device for selectively delivering drug-laden air or air not laden with the drug; a sensor for monitoring the breathing pattern of a patient; a controller arranged to control the drug delivery device to deliver drug-laden air in pulses which begin when the patient is monitored by the sensor to begin inhalation, the pulses having a duration which is adjusted by the controller on the basis of the monitored breathing pattern of the patient; a feedback indicator which indicates to a patient whether the monitored breathing pattern is effective for inhaling drug-laden air or not a dose calculator which calculates the dose delivered to the patient; and an indicator which indicates to the patient when a desired dose has been delivered, whereby the apparatus is configured to deliver the full amount of the desired dose in at least 80% of treatments.
Abstract:
Methods and devices for delivering a dose, such as a medicament, for inhalation. A dose may be stored by a delivery device and dispersed and delivered in a metered fashion to a subject, such as by the subject inhaling via a mouthpiece of the delivery device. One or more chambers of the device may have a toroidal shape and may be arranged to be selectively opened for fluid communication with a flow path of the delivery device, such as by sliding the chamber relative to a portion of the flow path. The flow path may include a restriction that permits air to bypass the chamber, and/or the chamber may be arranged so that fluid entering the chamber interacts with fluid exiting the chamber so as to enhance dispersion of the dose.
Abstract:
A medication delivery device for delivering a medicament by inhalation, said device comprising a housing (2) defining a chamber adapted to receive a metered dose of medication from a medication dispensing device, such as a pressurised metered dose inhaler canister or a dry powder inhaler, said chamber having an outlet (4) communicating with a mouthpiece of the device whereby said metered dose of medication can be withdrawn from the chamber via the mouthpiece by inhalation by a patient, said chamber being provided with a moveable wall (5) moveable between a first position and a second position, whereby said moveable wall is arranged to move from its first position to its second position as a patient withdraws a dose of medication from the chamber by inhalation to verify complete inhalation of said dose of medication.FIG. 2
Abstract:
According to one aspect of the present invention, an aerosol inhalation system includes a first conduit member for delivering medication in the form of aerosol particles to a patient. The system also includes a first device in fluid communication with the first holding chamber for producing the aerosol particles and being sealingly yet releasably received within an adapter that forms an entrance into a first holding chamber. The adapter has a compressible material disposed thereon which is at least partially compressed by insertion of the first device to form the seal between the first device and the adapter, thereby creating a closed system that is therefore capable of delivering a fixed concentration of the medication to the patient due to a valve of the valve mechanism being closed when the patient inhales and the medication is delivered to the patient.
Abstract:
According to one aspect of the present invention, an aerosol inhalation system including an accessory is defined by a first conduit member for delivering medication in the form of aerosol particles to a patient, as well as a first holding chamber for holding the aerosol particles prior to deliver to the first conduit member. The accessory includes a valve mechanism associated with the first conduit member and including a first valve assembly and a second valve assembly. The aerosol inhalation system includes at least one device in fluid communication with the first holding chamber for producing the aerosol particles. For example, the device can be either an MDI, a nebulizer or both devices can be used simultaneously. According to one exemplary embodiment of the present invention, the aerosol inhalation system is a closed system and is therefore capable of delivering a fixed concentration of the medication to the patient, thereby overcoming the above deficiencies that are associated with the prior art devices.
Abstract:
An inhalation aid to be used in connection with an aerosol dispenser. The inhalation aid includes a chamber designed with an opening for connection to an aerosol dispenser and an opening including a mouthpiece for drawing the aerosol. The chamber is designed with a variable volume. The chamber is delimited by a conically tapering expansion bellows made of a continuous, elastic material, whereby a simple and tight construction of the inhalation aid is obtainable.
Abstract:
The inhaler for aerosol medication is an inhaler having a recirculation chamber or rebreather. The inhaler has an aerosol holding chamber having an inlet end for attaching a holder for aerosol medication or nebulizer device thereto and an outlet end for attachment to a mouthpiece or mask for dispensing the medication or substance to the user, with a recirculation chamber depending from the outlet end of the holding chamber or from a mask extending from the outlet end of the chamber. The recirculation chamber has a filter to capture particles of the dispensed substance and prevent their escape from the device to the ambient air. The recirculation chamber may be folded or collapsed for storage within the volume of the aerosol holding chamber. The aerosol holding chamber may be stored within the recirculation chamber.
Abstract:
An inhaler comprises a pump 17, a drug dosing device 15 and a cyclone 1 which delivers an aerosol of powdered medicament from the drug dosing device 15 into a chamber 11 when the pump 17 is activated. The aerosol is inhaled by the user through a mouthpiece 13.
