Abstract: A surgical apparatus is configured to support at least one bone cut for installation of a prosthetic component. The installed prosthetic component will have reduced alignment error. The surgical apparatus is configured to distract a first compartment to a first predetermined load value while allowing a moving support structure to pivot freely. A distraction lock mechanism is then engaged to prevent movement of a distraction mechanism that raises or lowers the moving support structure relative to a fixed support structure. The moving support structure has M-L tilt angle that is measured. A M-L tilt mechanism is engaged to forcibly equalize the first and second compartments. Engaging the M-L tilt mechanism prevents the moving support structure from freely pivoting. The at least one bone cut relates to the first and second compartments equalized and the M-L tilt angle.

Abstract: An orthopaedic joint replacement system is shown and described. The system includes a number of prosthetic components configured to be implanted into a patient's knee. The system also includes a number of surgical instruments configured for use in preparing the bones of the patient's knee to receive the implants. A method or technique for using the surgical instruments to prepare the bones is also disclosed.

Abstract: A tibial baseplate is described. While the baseplate can include any suitable component, in some instances, it includes a first surface and a second surface, the second surface being substantially opposite to the first surface and the first surface being configured to be seated on a resected surface at a proximal end of a tibia. In some cases, the baseplate also includes a first spacer coupling that is configured to couple a first spacer to at least one of a lateral side and a medial side of the baseplate such that the spacer is disposed between, and is configured to maintain a set minimal distance between, the proximal end of the tibia and a distal end of a femur when the tibial baseplate is seated on the resected surface at the proximal end of the tibia and the spacer is coupled to the tibial baseplate. Other implementations are discussed.

Abstract: A resection guide locator includes a bone engagement portion with surfaces that are complementary to the surface topographies of a bone to be resected during surgery. A housing includes a socket defined by a resilient annular wall that is sized and arranged so to accept a resection guide by press-fit to thereby position and hold the resection guide within the socket. The resection guide is maintained in a predetermined, preferred position while the surfaces are releasably locked in position on the bone. A method is disclosed for forming and using the resection guide locator.

Abstract: An orthopaedic surgical instrument includes a customized patient-specific surgical instrument having a body. A cutting guide slot extends through the body. A pair of first arms extends posteriorly from the body. Each arm includes a first customized patient-specific negative contour configured to receive a portion of a first corresponding positive contour of one of a patient's femoral condyles. A second arm extends proximally from the body. The second arm has a second customized patient-specific negative contour configured to receive a portion of a second corresponding positive contour of an anterior surface of the patient's femur. Abstract: A medical device to facilitate a distal femoral cut of a femur of a patient is described herein. Such medical devices can include a base having a planar surface along a first plane between a distal end and a proximal end of the base. The medical device also includes one or more projections extending from the distal end of the base. The medical device also includes a cutting guide used to guide cutting of the distal femoral cut and a mounting mechanism that is used to releasably couple the cutting guide to the proximal end of the base. The base, the one or more projections, and the cutting guide are configured to engage various surfaces femoral condyles of the femur when the medical device is placed on a knee joint without requiring insertion of an intermedullary femoral rod into the femoral canal of the knee.
