    摘要: A tool clamping mechanism (12) is provided for a tool engaging arm having a frame or chassis (18) which is moved along a path of travel toward a tool (47). The mechanism includes a tool contact member or tongue (60) and preferably includes a pair of spaced apart fingers (40) positioned to engage a groove formed in the tool (47). The tongue (60) is mounted for movement along the path of travel with the frame, such as by means of bar (62) joined to the fingers, a pin (67) supported by the bar and projecting through a slot in the tongue (60), and a rod (72) attached to the tongue which extends into the frame (18) along a bore (75). Such mounting arrangement enables the frame (18) to continue to move toward the tool (47) after the tongue (60) has contacted the tool, thereby achieving relative motion between the frame (18) and tongue (60). Jaws (48) are mounted on the fingers for movement from a tool release position to a tool clamping position in response to a force generated by applied to the jaws by means of rollers (70) mounted on the tongue (60) which act against cammed surfaces (54) of jaws (48).

A frame (66) of the shuttle mechanism (10) includes an offset rotatable section (65) which is arranged to extend over a portion (79) of the indexing table (13) with the shuttle mechanism (10) including support arms (16, 19) in conjunction with the offset rotatable section to extend over a portion of the indexing table (13). In this manner, the rotation as well as raising and lowering of the workpiece support can effect the placement of a workpiece from the workpiece support on to an indexing table as well as removal therefrom of the workpiece which has been operated on without the requirement of a power mechanism for moving a pallet (14, 15) between the workpiece support (16, 19) and the indexing table (13).

    摘要: A gear change mechanism for a machine tool in which shifting forks with sliding gears and constant mesh gearing using clutch and/or brake shifting is eliminated. A shiftable gear mechanism is presented in a gear train for meshing engagement with any one of a plurality of gears for selectively varying the speed of the machine spindle. The shiftable gear mechanism includes a first rotatable shaft and a second shaft connected to a cluster gear positioned to slide and rotate the second shaft in relation to the first shaft. A cylinder apparatus is connected coaxially to the second shaft to slide the second shaft in a reciprocating manner along the first shaft so as to move the cluster gear and vary the gear ratios between the cluster gear and the other gears in the gear train. A bearing assembly is also utilized in conjunction with the second slidable shaft so as to prevent any sliding action between the cluster gear and the shifting mechanism.

    摘要: An automatic dynamic error compensator for compensating the position error arising within a servo drive system includes a measuring head which is operative to measure the relative indicated position of two or more measuring vanes on the movable member. The measuring head, together with a feedback transducer, that measures indicated movable member position, are coupled to a feedback system. The feedback system determines the indicated movable member position from the feedback transducer reading and then compares the indicated movable member position to the known vane position upon occurrence of a vane crossing to yield a compensating value.

The chambers contain quantities of a fluid such as mercury (116) and are coupled together through a conduit (20) which enables mercury (116) to flow between them as required, so that the mercury levels in the chambers will be in the same horizontal plane. A first device (140a) is mounted at a first distance above the fluid in the first chamber and at a fixed distance above the first surface (12a). Likewise, a second device (140b) is mounted at a second distance above the fluid in the second chamber, and at the same fixed distance above the second surface (12b). The first device senses an inductive field varying as the first distance and the second device senses an inductive field varying as the second distance to provide a voltage representing the difference between the first and second distances and thus the difference in elevation between the first and second surfaces.

    摘要: A machine tool having a numerically controlled adjustable arbor for facilitating different straddle milling operations on random workpieces without the need for manual adjustment of the cutter width comprises a frame which carries a power station thereon. The power station has a rotary driven spindle which is journaled within a quill which is movable out from and into the power station under numerical control. A bifurcated arbor, configured of a pair of coaxial shafts which are in sleeved engagement with each other so as to be axially movable to and from each other while rotating co-jointly with each other, is coupled at one end to the power station spindle and is journaled at its distal end in a fixed arbor support. Each shaft of the bifurcated arbor carries a straddle milling cutter thereon in spaced apart relationship with the cutter on the other arbor member. By controlling the axial movement of the power station quill, the separation between straddle milling cutters can be controlled accordingly without the need for operator intervention.

    摘要: A voice actuated control system suitable for use on a computer numerically controlled (CNC) machine tool includes a pair of radio frequency transmitters and a pair of radio frequency receivers, one of the radio frequency receivers and one of the radio frequency transmitters being located at the machine tool site and the other radio frequency receiver and radio frequency transmitter being carried by the human machine tool operator. Operator-spoken commands are transmitted through the operator's transmitter to the machine tool receiver which outputs an audio signal to a voice interpreter that converts the received voice commands into digital signals which are transmitted to the CNC machine tool control system to control machine tool operation. Digital signals generated by the CNC machine tool control system, either in response to received operator commands or in accordance with variations in machine tool operating conditions, are converted by a speech synthesizer into synthesized audio signals representing speech phrases indicative of machine tool operation conditions. The speech synthesizer audio signals are transmitted to the operator to audibly inform him or her that the previously transmitted voice commands have been received or that further instructions are required.

A system or device for controllably driving the rod reciprocating mechanism is immovably fixed to the machine spindlehead, the driving system operating the rod reciprocating mechanism to cause the actuating rod to feed the selected tool at a prespecified rate. Structure supporting the shaft and the reciprocating mechanism enables an automatic tool changer to selectively join the shaft to the spindle, and place the rod reciprocating mechanism in operative relationship with the driving system.

Splined on the rearward end of the drawbar distal from the spindle is a spur gear which is shiftable into and out of engagement with a cluster gear driven by the spindle drive motor. When the spur gear on the rearward drawbar end is shifted into engagement with the cluster gear driven by the spindle drive motor, the drawbar will be rotatably threaded either into or out of the toolholder shank by the spindle drive motor and thus, the need for a separate motor to rotatably drive the drawbar is eliminated.

    摘要: Apparatus for setting cutting tool length on numerically controlled machine tools includes a base having a leg extending perpendicularly therefrom. A rod is fastened to the base parallel to the leg. Overlying the end of the rod distal from the base is a cap which is reciprocal along the axis of the rod and which is biased away from the base by a spring interposed between the rod and the cap. A dial indicator gauge is fastened to the rod to abut the cap for indicating the displacement of the cap along the rod relative to the base. A setting block is pivotally mounted to the leg a known distance from the base and is rotatable about the axis of the leg for urging the cap against the spring so that the distance between the cap and the base corresponds to the known distance between the setting block and the base, to facilitate zeroing of the dial indicator gauge. Once the dial indicator gauge is zeroed, the setting block pivoted away from the cap and the cutting edge of a cutting tool is brought into contact with the cap. The tool length is set by adjusting the tool length until the dial indicator gauge reads zero.
