摘要: An extrusion blow molded container is provided comprising a closed base, a body portion extending from the closed base having a surface finish that is substantially free of striations, and an open neck portion extending from the body portion. In an embodiment, the container is comprised of polyethylene terephthalate (PET); the base portion includes a support portion and a substantially elevated portion having a center and a major diameter; and the center is disposed an elevated distance above said surface that is less than about 0.05 the major diameter. A method and apparatus for extrusion blow molding an article is also disclosed.

The container includes a molded first layer having an inner surface and an outer surface formed from high density polyethylene, and a carbon coating formed on the inner surface of the first layer and adhered thereto and substantially coextensive with the first layer, wherein said carbon coating has a thickness of less than about 10 microns.

摘要: A container including an upper wall portion formed from at least an inner layer and an outer layer of material wherein the inner layer of material has a first thickness at the upper wall portion. The container also includes an intermediate side wall portion formed from at least the inner and the outer layer of material. The inner layer of material has a second thickness at the intermediate side wall portion which is thinner than the first thickness at the upper wall portion and the intermediate side wall portion is positioned beneath the upper wall portion. The container also includes a self-supporting base wall portion formed from at least the inner layer and the outer layer of material. The inner layer of material has a third thickness at the self-supporting base wall portion thicker than the second thickness at the intermediate side wall portion and the self-supporting base wall portion is positioned beneath the intermediate side wall portion and adapted to support the container.

摘要: A multi-layer preform (26a,26b,26c) used for plastic blow molding and a method for making the preform provides an inner layer (28) of polyethylene naphthalate and an injection molded outer layer (30) of polyethylene terephthalate which has reduced transmission of gas upon blow molding as a container due to the gas barrier provided by the inner layer of polyethylene naphthalate. The inner layer (28) of polyethylene naphthalate by itself or along with a further inner layer (32) of virgin polyethylene terephthalate is thermoformed prior to the injection molding of the outer layer (30) of polyethylene terephthalate. A minimal amount of the polyethylene naphthalate which is relatively expensive can be utilized due to the thermoforming and injection molding as disclosed.

摘要: A dispensing closure assembly (14) for use with a plastic blow molded container (12) is disclosed as including a dispensing member (20) that is adapted to be fixedly mounted on an upper open end (18) of the blow molded container and also includes a closure member (22) rotatably mounted on the dispensing member for movement between fill and dispensing positions. Dispensing member (20) and closure member (22) of the closure assembly each have an associated fill opening (26, 28) that are aligned in the fill position to fill the interior (24) of the closure assembly upon inversion of the container, and the fill openings are unaligned with each other in the dispensing position to close the upper open end of the container. Dispensing member (20) and closure member (22) also each have an associated dispensing opening (32, 34) that are unaligned in the fill position so the liquid contents received from the container then remain within the interior (24) of the closure assembly, and the dispensing openings are aligned with each other in the dispensing position of the closure member to permit dispensing of liquid contents within the closure assembly.

摘要: A plastic container comprised of a closed base, a body portion, and a neck portion with a dispensing opening. The closed base includes a substantially rigid support portion and a flexible portion. The body portion preferably includes a shoulder portion and a substantially rigid wall portion that includes a plurality of reinforcement formations. The container is configured so that the flexible portion of the base contracts upwardly about the support portion in response to vacuum pressures generated within the container, while the substantially rigid support portion of the sidewall remains substantially firm, for example, to accept or receive a label. If desired, the shoulder portion may include a logo and/or one or more pressure relief formations. A method for producing hot-filled, labeled containers is also disclosed.

摘要: A preform for forming a hollow blow molded plastic container is provided with a closed base, a multilayer body-forming portion extending from the base, and an open neck portion that extends from the body portion. The body portion includes a co-extruded inner liner that includes (a) an innermost polymer layer, (b) at least one oxygen-scavenging layer, and (c) at least one high-oxygen barrier layer for retarding the migration of gases and moisture therethrough. An outermost layer is molded over the inner liner to form a preform. The liner and preform are formed so that the wall thickness of the individual layers can easily be varied along their lengths, however, at any given point along the length of the co-extruded liner (a) the wall thickness of the innermost polymer layer is less than 0.50 of the wall thickness of the inner liner and (b) the wall thickness of the inner liner is less than 0.25 of the total wall thickness of the preform body portion. Moreover, by the nature of the process, the innermost layer and the outer molded layer of the liner and the preform can be comprised of different polymer materials.

摘要: A multi-layer plastic preform 14 with an inner layer 28 that is extrusion blow molded from a resin having an intrinsic viscosity greater than 0.90, and an outer layer 44 that is injection molded around the inner layer from a resin having an intrinsic viscosity that is at least 0.10 less than the intrinsic viscosity of the inner layer. The inner layer 28 is no greater than 20% (preferably no greater than 15%) by weight of the total weight of the preform and the outer layer 44 is at least 80% (preferably at least 85%) by weight of the total weight of the preform.
