Abstract: A method of downloading multimedia content from a server to a client through a wireless communication network is proposed. The multimedia content is subdivided into a plurality of portions and for each portion the server stores a plurality of versions thereof each of which is encoded with a specific encoding quality. The method comprises: selecting, among the plurality of versions of each portion of the multimedia content, a version of the portion of the multimedia content to be downloaded on the basis of wireless communication parameters determined at at least two different layers of a wireless communication network OSI protocol stack at the client.

Abstract: A method for allocating resource blocks on a cellular network including transceiver stations to provide cell coverage for allowing user equipment within the cell to exchange data via uplink or downlink. The method includes, at a cell, reiterating operations at each or a group of transmission time intervals. The operations include listing user equipment requiring resource blocks in a priority list; b) for the user equipment listed in the priority list, executing operations b1) and b2) or b1) and b3): b1) selecting a set of resource blocks including at least one resource block; b2) if the selected set of resource blocks has not been assigned to other user equipment, assigning to the user equipment the selected set of resource blocks; b3) if the selected set of resource blocks has been assigned to other user equipment, replacing the user equipment from the priority list with user equipment in a collision list.

Abstract: An iterative receiver is proposed for receiving in a cell a signal and for providing information carried on the signal by execution of at least one processing iteration. The receiver includes an estimate assembly for receiving the signal and providing, at each one of the processing iterations, a respective information estimate; a regeneration assembly for receiving, at each processing iteration, the information estimate provided by the estimate assembly at that iteration, and for providing a regenerated signal therefrom based on the information estimate and on attenuation of radio channels over which the signal has been transmitted; an interference estimate unit for providing, at each iteration, an interference estimate based on the signal and the regenerated signal, the estimate assembly providing, starting from a second processing iteration of the processing iterations, the information estimate based on the interference estimate; and an extraction unit for extracting the information from the information estimate.

Abstract: A method of downloading a multimedia content from a content server to a client through a wireless communication network is provided. The multimedia content is subdivided into a plurality of chunks and for each chunk the content server has at least two corresponding versions thereof encoded with different encoding rates. The method includes having the client send a first request of a first version of a corresponding requested chunk, and having a proxy server intercept the first request to generate a second request of a second version of the requested chunk. The method also includes having the proxy server send the second request to the content server in place of the first request, and having the content server send the second version to the client. The second request is generated based on the amount of information content of the versions of said requested chunk.

Abstract: An iterative receiver receives a signal including useful and interfering signal components, and detects information carried thereon. The receiver includes at least one estimating unit receiving the signal and providing an estimate of each signal component, and at least two decoding and regenerating units, at each iteration, each decoding and regenerating unit decoding a respective one among the estimates and for regenerating the respective decoded estimate into a respective regenerated estimate. At each receiver iteration, the at least one estimating unit provides estimates based on regenerated estimates provided at a previous iteration. The receiver further includes a control unit determines activation or deactivation of each decoding and regenerating unit at each process step of a detection process dedicated to detection of the signal, and determines, for each process step, a respective number of allowed iterations for each decoding and regenerating unit whose activation has been determined for that process step.

Abstract: A method manages sub-frame data transmission in a cellular network including a macro node and at least one small node associated therewith. The method includes at a macro node side: based on channel quality information from user equipment associated with the macro node, grouping the user equipment into a first group that can be served at a macro node first transmission power and a second group that has to be served at a macro node second transmission power higher than the macro node first transmission power, and determining a sub-frames pattern including: a number of no-transmission sub-frames wherein data transmission is prevented at the macro node side, a number of limited-transmission sub-frames wherein data transmission is allowed at the macro node side at only the first transmission power, and a number of normal-transmission sub frames wherein data transmission is allowed at the macro node side at the second transmission power.

Abstract: A method for scheduling radio resource allocation among active flows within a wireless communication network. The method includes, at each working period of the scheduling method; for each active flow, checking presence of priority data to be transmitted within the current working period. Each active flow having priority data to be transmitted within the current working period is classified as a priority active flow. The remaining active flows are classified as non-priority active flows, the non-priority active flows having non-priority data that need not to be transmitted within the current working period. Radio resources are allocated among the priority active flows, and corresponding priority data are transmitted over the respective allocated resources. After completing priority data transmission, the radio resources are allocated among the non-priority active flows and corresponding non-priority data are transmitted over the respective allocated radio resources until the end of the current working period.

Abstract: A method for managing data packets transmitted by a first user equipment to be received by a second user equipment through a radio network includes having the radio network comprising a radio transceiver station receive data packets transmitted by the first user equipment. For each data packet received, checking whether the data packet comprises a request for a data packet tunneling. For each data packet comprising a request for data packet tunneling, providing the data packet to a relay protocol entity at a Radio Link Control protocol layer. The relay protocol entity is configured for generating at least one tunneling data packet, said generating at least one tunneling data packet comprises inserting at least a portion of the transmitted data packet into the at least one tunneling data packet and transmitting the tunneling data packet to the second user equipment.
