Abstract:
A method and apparatus for providing an alert on a portable communication device such as a user equipment (UE) entering an alerting area is provided. The UE runs a GPS engine continuously to estimate the location of the UE from the time the alert system is activated. The method and apparatus provide an alert system on a UE by calculating the distance between the UE and alerting area. Further, the method and apparatus enable using different positioning systems based on the distance of the UE from the alerting area, thereby reducing the power consumption of the UE battery.

Abstract:
Some example embodiments disclose methods for improving Paging Type2 performance in Dual Sim Dual Standby (DSDS) devices, wherein the methods include transmitting a status Packet Data Unit (PDU) for a Signaling Radio Bearer (SRB) to a network; initiating a first timer in response to the transmitting the status PDU; blocking a radio frequency tune away to a first Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) if one or more missing PDUs are not received before expiry of the first timer; initiating a second timer in response to the blocking the RF tune away; and retaining, by a second SIM, radio frequency resources until expiry of the second timer or the one or more missing PDUs are received from the network.
Abstract:
Method for sidelink operations for Proximity based Services (ProSe) in a multi Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) multi standby User Equipment (UE), the UE including at least a first SIM and a second SIM, may include detecting, by a sidelink management unit, whether one or more sidelink operations are triggered on the first SIM, the UE registered for the ProSe, determining, by the sidelink management unit, whether the one or more sidelink operations triggered on the first SIM are for a first activity or for one or more second activities, and reserving, by the sidelink management unit, at least one Radio Frequency (RF) resource of the UE for the first SIM to continue the one or more sidelink operations triggered on the first SIM if the one or more triggered sidelink operations are for the first activity.

Abstract:
Methods and apparatus are provided for selecting a serving cell in a communication network for reducing power consumption in a UE, is provided. Network topology information is determined by obtaining cell rank information for the UE, extracting a mobility state of the UE, and applying a double moving average principle to the cell rank information of the UE. The network topology information is employed to determine a change in network topology. Radio Frequency (RF) scans are optimized based on the network topology.
