Abstract: An operation method and an electronic device are provided. A phone call is established while a display of the electronic device is activated. A proximity sensor of the electronic device is turned on. A supply of power to the proximity sensor is controlled to emit light through a plurality of pixels in a portion of the display corresponding to a position of the proximity sensor and the light emitted by the proximity sensor and reflected by an object is received to identify a distance between the electronic device and the object, if the plurality of the pixels in the position corresponding to the proximity sensor are deactivated during the phone call. The supply of power to the proximity sensor is blocked if the plurality of pixels in the portion of the display corresponding to the proximity sensor are activated during the phone call.

Abstract: An operation method and an electronic device are provided. A phone call is established while a display of the electronic device is activated. Abstract: An operation method and an electronic device are provided. A proximity detection mode is activated in response to deactivating the display during an execution of a call application. In response to activating the proximity detection mode, a proximity distance of an object is identified based on outputting the light through the light emitting unit and receiving the light through the light receiving unit. If the identified proximity distance is larger than a pre-defined proximity recognition distance, the proximity detection mode is deactivated and the display is activated.

Abstract: An electronic device includes a housing having a hole formed therein, an audio device inside the housing and communicating with an outside of the electronic device through the hole, a gas sensor inside the housing and communicating with the outside through the hole, a proximity sensor inside the housing, a wireless communication module inside the housing, and a processor inside the housing. The processor is configured to acquire data associated with air outside the electronic device by using the gas sensor, to recognize a user gesture of starting a proximity call by using the proximity sensor, and to calculate air quality of the outside air based on at least one of data acquired by the gas sensor before the proximity call starting gesture is recognized and data acquired by the gas sensor after a gesture of ending the proximity call is recognized. Other various embodiments are possible.

Abstract: Various embodiments of the present invention relate to an electronic device including a liquid crystal, the electronic device including: a piece of glass; a display disposed under a first region of the piece of glass; a power supplying module; one or more electrode films; and one or more liquid crystal layers disposed between the one or more electrode films. The electronic device may also include: a light reflection member (e.g., cholesteric liquid crystal) disposed under a second region of the piece of glass; a processor operatively connected to the display, the power supplying module, and the light reflection member; and a memory operatively connected to the processor. The processor can check the content to be displayed through the display, and can use the power supplying module to supply power to the light reflection member on the basis of at least the checked content, so that the one or more liquid crystal layers reflects at least a portion of light incident from the outside of the electronic device. In addition, other embodiments are possible.
