Abstract: A liquid-crystal display device includes a substrate, a thin-film transistor (“TFT”) disposed on the substrate, an insulation film disposed on the TFT, a pixel electrode disposed on the insulation film, an expanded electrode disposed in a same layer as the pixel electrode, a connection electrode which is disposed in the same layer as the pixel electrode and connects the pixel electrode with the expanded electrode, and a shield electrode disposed in the same layer as the pixel electrode and separated from the pixel electrode, the connection electrode and the expanded electrode, where the expanded electrode is electrically connected to the TFT via a contact hole defined in the insulation film, and where the shield electrode includes a first shield portion disposed between the pixel electrode and the contact hole in a plan view, and a second shield portion other than the first shield portion.

Abstract: A display device and a method of manufacturing a display device are capable of preventing an alignment layer from being lumped in a microcavity. The display device includes: a substrate; a thin film transistor formed on the substrate; a pixel electrode connected to the thin film transistor; a roof layer formed on the pixel electrode; microcavities interposed between the pixel electrode and the roof layer; an injection hole formed in the roof layer, the injection hole configured to expose at least a portion of the microcavities; a first valley extended in one direction between the microcavities; an alignment layer formed on the pixel electrode, under the roof layer, and in the first valley; a liquid crystal layer filled in the microcavities; and an encapsulation layer formed on the roof layer, the encapsulation layer configured to cover the injection hole and to seal the microcavities.

An exemplary display panel has a substrate; a pixel electrode formed on the substrate; a first black matrix and a second black matrix each disposed on the substrate; and a supporting member disposed on the substrate over the pixel electrode and the black matrix, the supporting member shaped so as to form a microcavity between the pixel electrode and the supporting member, the microcavity having an upper surface proximate to the supporting member and a lower surface opposite the upper surface. The microcavity has one end positioned over the first black matrix, and another end opposite the first end and positioned over the second black matrix; the lower surface of the microcavity has first and second channels disposed therein, the first channel positioned over the first black matrix, and the second channel positioned over the second black matrix.

Abstract: A display device includes a transistor, a data line, a pixel electrode, a common electrode, and a liquid crystal layer. The data line is connected to a source electrode of the transistor. A geometric radius of curvature associated with the display device is perpendicular to the data line. The pixel electrode is connected to a drain electrode of the transistor and includes a plate electrode. Sides of the plate electrode are oriented at acute angles with respect to the data line in a plan view associated with the display device. The common electrode overlaps the pixel electrode and has a slit. The slit has a first edge and a second edge. The first edge is perpendicular to the data line in the plan view and is longer than the second edge. The liquid crystal layer is positioned between the pixel electrode and the common electrode.
