Abstract: An image processing device including a decoding section configured to decode an image from an encoded stream, a horizontal filtering section configured to apply a deblocking filter to a vertical block boundary within an image to be decoded by the decoding section, a vertical filtering section configured to apply a deblocking filter to a horizontal block boundary within an image to be decoded by the decoding section, and a control section configured to cause the horizontal filtering section to filter in parallel a plurality of vertical block boundaries included in a processing unit containing a plurality of coding units and cause the vertical filtering section to filter in parallel a plurality of horizontal block boundaries included in the processing unit.

Abstract: Implementations generally relate to data-charge phase data compression. In one implementation, a method includes computing prediction values for image data, where the image data is data-charge phase data, where the computing of prediction values is based on inter-block prediction, and where an additional bit-budget is assigned to a first block of the image data. The method also includes computing residual data based on the prediction values. The method also includes quantizing the residual data. The method also includes entropy encoding the quantized residual data. The method also includes refining an inverse quantized residual data based on one or more of the residual data and a number of left-over bit-budget after entropy encoding.

Abstract: Apparatus and method for optimizing encoding and decoding when using embedded block coding, in which each block is independent coded is described. Instead of coding the whole block in response to a single mode decision, the block is separated into multiple sub-blocks sharing the same block bit budget. A block is divided for example in response to color or spatial considerations. A joint mode decision is then made where mode (DPCM/PCM) as well as qn are independently determined for each sub-block, while optimizing the use of the overall bit budget by sharing bits between the sub-blocks through refinement bits.

A class tap selection unit configures a class tap by selecting a pixel that is a class tap used in class classification of classifying a pixel to be processed of a first image obtained by adding a residual error of prediction encoding and a prediction image together, into any one class of a plurality of classes, from the first image. A class classification unit performs the class classification of the pixel to be processed by using the class tap, and a filter processing unit performs filter processing corresponding to class of the pixel to be processed, with respect to the first image, to generate a second image used in prediction of the prediction image. The class tap selection unit updates a tap structure of the class tap to a selected tap structure.

Abstract: The present technology relates to an image processing device and an image processing method which allow a deblocking filtering process to apply filtering appropriately. A pixel (p0i) of which the value is 255 (solid line) before a deblocking process changes greatly to 159 (dot line) after a conventional deblocking process. Therefore, a clipping process having a clipping value of 10 is performed in strong filtering, whereby the pixel (p0i) of which the value is 255 (solid line) before the deblocking process becomes 245 (bold line). Thus, a change in the pixel value occurring in the conventional technique can be suppressed as much as possible. This disclosure can be applied to an image processing device, for example.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for selecting the use of inter-prediction or intra-prediction during enhanced encoding and decoding of Bayer images is presented. Intra-plane predictions rely on correlation between neighboring pixels of the same color, while inter-plane predictions rely on correlation between neighboring pixels in different color planes (i.e., different colors). A dynamic range decision is made to select whether to use the intra-plane or inter-plane prediction, towards eliminating large residuals which can arise in certain large edge situations.
