Abstract: A microneedle comprising a shaft has a proximal end and a distal end and, optionally, a capillary space within said shaft, said capillary space (i) connecting said proximal and distal ends or (ii) extending from the distal end of the shaft and connecting with one or more external openings positioned between the proximal end and distal end or (iii) performing the functions of both (i) and (ii). The microneedle includes a polymer mixture that includes (a) polycarbonate, (b) polycarbonate-polysiloxane copolymer and (c) mold release agent.

Abstract: A foamable poly carbonate composition comprising 5 to 95 wt % of a poly(siloxane) block copolymer comprising a poly(carbonate-siloxane) comprising 50 to 99 wt % of bisphenol A carbonate units and 1 to 50 wt % of dimethylsiloxane units, each based on the weight of the poly(carbonate-siloxane), a poly(ester-carbonate-siloxane) comprising bisphenol A carbonate units, isophthalate-terephthalate-bisphenol A ester units, and 5 to 200 dimethyl siloxane units, or a combination thereof; 5 to 95 wt % of an auxiliary component comprising a poly(alkylene ester), a poly(ester-carbonate), or a combination thereof, and optionally, a homopolycarbonate; optionally, up to 10 wt % of an additive composition, wherein the composition has a glass transition temperature of 140° C. and below measured using differential scanning calorimetry, and wherein a foamed sample of the composition has an average cell size of 10 nanometers to 20 micrometers.

Abstract: A method of forming a microneedle array having alternating layers of material includes transforming a multilayer sheet by cutting, assembling and stretching steps to form a stretched, stacked multilayer sheet. The stretched, stacked multilayer sheet is cut, assembled and stretched to form a film, the film is heated, and at least a portion of the film is caused to be displaced into a plurality of recesses thereby forming a plurality of protrusions at a surface of the film.

Abstract: A method of forming a microneedle array comprising disposing a first curved laminate 100 adjacent an embossing roll 101. The laminate comprises a body having a first longitudinal side and a second longitudinal side extending from a curved base. The first longitudinal side comprises a plurality of recesses 111 disposed adjacent a periphery of the first longitudinal side. At least a second curved laminate 105 is disposed adjacent the embossing roll, defining a plurality of cavities 208 there between. A material is extruded at one or more of the first and second curved laminates. At least a portion of the embossing roll is heated at a point of contact between the material and one or more of the first and second curved laminates. The material is caused to move into the plurality of cavities forming a plurality of projections at a surface of the material and the material is demolded.
