Abstract:
A hollow cylinder exhibits an internal body, which forms a sickle-shaped space by means of a partial cylindrical surface arranged eccentrically to the hollow cylinder, with a smaller radius than its internal radius. In this space there is created a vacuum on rotation of the hollow cylinder. By this means air is sucked out of the area through the boreholes of the hollow cylinder, where a web of material wraps the hollow cylinder. This leads to a firmer adherence of the web on material to the hollow cylinder.
Abstract:
There is provided a coiling machine for coiling a continuous paper web having two large rolls that form a coil bed for uptake of a paper coil. The space bounded by the large rolls and the coil is formed as a pressure-tight chamber that has a compressed air connection. Particularly for the present invention, one of the two large rolls has a jacket that is essentially more intensely deformable than the jacket of the other roll and, thus, one large roll is softer than the other large roll. The upper vertex of the softer large roll is located lower than the upper vertex of the harder large roll. The web guidance is configured for one embodiment of the coiling machine such that the web is introduced from below, and between the two large rolls, to wind around the softer large roll. For another embodiment of the coiling machine, the web is introduced through a pressing gap between one of the large rolls and the coil.
Abstract:
A drive for the guide roll of a drying felt or wire in the drying group of a paper machine, or the like. A gear transmission drives a selected one of the paper web guide rolls, which may be a drying cylinder, in a first group of rolls. The felt or wire is wrapped around a second group of rolls comprising felt or wire guide rolls. The one felt or wire guide roll located nearest the gear transmission is connected to the shaft of a drive gear of the gear transmission via a belt drive connection. Thus, rotation of the drive gear of the gear transmission via the gear transmission drives the one selected driven roll of the first group, and via the belt drive connection drives the driven felt or wire guide roll.
Abstract:
A coating apparatus, for applying a coating substance to a paper web, has a chamber from which the coating substance is supplied via a slit type mouth communicating with an applicator space which is defined by the paper web and a doctor blade element. At the web, on the side of the applicator space from where the paper web enters, a throttling passage is formed by a back-pressure element in such a manner that a stream of excess coating substance issues from the applicator space via the throttling passage and abruptly separates from the web and in so doing flows away from the web predominantly as a film thereby preventing completely or almost completely the admission of air into the applicator space by the air boundary layer adjacent the moving web.
Abstract:
A method and device for the winding up of a moving web of paper (9) on a reel spool (11), as large a part as possible of the developing wound roll (12) having a high degree of winding hardness (WH), characterized by the fact that a relatively soft intermediate layer is formed between the wound roll (12) of high winding hardness and the winding core (11). This is achieved in the manner that, during a short initial phase of the winding process, it is ensured that the winding hardness (WH) is relatively slight in the innermost layers of the wound roll (12), whereupon an immediate transition to a relatively high winding hardness (WH) is effected which is being substantially maintained during the rest of the winding-up process. Alternately, the relatively soft intermediate layer can also be created in the manner that the reel spool (11A-11D) has a soft covering (41, 42, 43, 44, 45, 46, 47) on a metal reel spool body (40).
Abstract:
A doctor bar consists of two different circular disks that are clamped or fixed in some other way on a cylindrical carrier bar. Circular disks having a smaller diameter and made from elastic material alternate with circular disks that have a larger diameter and are made of a very wear-resistant material, specifically ceramic. The difference in the outside diameter makes for one-half the groove of peripheral grooves of the doctor bar that are formed between the various circular disks.

Abstract:
A winding machine for winding a traveling web of paper or the like. A carrying drum extends across the web. A first pair of primary levers supports the pins at the end of a cylinder on which the web is to be wound. The primary levers have one end with a fork for receiving a respective journal pin of the cylinder and another end that is mounted in the region of but eccentric to the axis of the carrying drum. The primary levers swing the cylinder over approximately 90.degree. around the carrying drum to a second position. A second pair of secondary swing levers pick up the cylinder at the second position and move it to a third position along a substantially horizontal second pathway. A first drive connected with one primary lever introduces a moment of rotation to the axis of the cylinder moving along the primary path. A sensor detects the radial position of the cylinder and a setting device adjusts the radial position of the first drive in order to align it with the cylinder. There may be a secondary drive for imparting rotation to the cylinder over the secondary path.

Abstract:
An air box for use beneath a pair of carrier rolls or a roll winder for a web. The air box disposed beneath the carrier rolls has first and second side walls generally sealed respectively at each of the carrier rolls. The paper web passes beneath one of the carrier rolls and up between the rolls. The web may tear and the paper web then drops into the air box. A connecting wall in the air box between the side walls thereof and above the base receives the paper falling thereon rather than the paper falling into the air box. The connecting wall may be inclined to direct the falling paper toward a side wall where an opening is provided enabling the moving of the paper. The connecting wall may be perforated and the air flow into the air box is beneath the perforated wall so that the air flow through the wall cooperates in moving the falling paper along the connecting wall. As a result, the waste paper can be removed quickly and easily.
