摘要: The present invention provides compositions useful as a replacement for cellulose ether in cement, plaster or mortar compositions comprising i) nonionic or substantially nonionic vinyl or acrylic brush polymers having pendant or side chain polyether groups, and having a relative weight average molecular weight of from 140,000 to 50,000,000 g/mole, and ii) aromatic cofactors containing one or more phenolic groups, such as catechol tannins, phenolic resins, polyphenolics, and napthhols or, in combination, one or more aromatic groups with at least one sulfur acid group, such as naphthalene sulfonate aldehyde condensate polymers, poly(styrene-co-styrene sulfonate) copolymers, and lignin sulfonates, preferably branched cofactors, including phenolic resins, aldehyde condensate polymers and lignin sulfonates. The compositions may comprise a dry powder blend of i) and ii), one dry powder of both i) and ii), or an aqueous mixture.

摘要: The present invention is method comprising the steps of a) contacting 4-hydroxyphenone and a salt thereof with propylene oxide in a reactor heated to a temperature in the range of from 100° C. to 200° C. to form a poly(propylene oxide)-benzophenone intermediate; then b) contacting the intermediate with ethylene oxide in the heated reactor to form an alkoxylated benzophenone substituted with propylene oxide groups and ethylene oxide groups. The method of the present invention is useful for preparing a non-volatile alkoxylated benzophenone photoinitiator that gives long lasting gloss retention in an exterior architectural coating.

摘要: A composition comprising:(a) from 20 to 60 wt % of a saccharide component comprising from two to five sugar ring units having polymerized units of at least one alkylene oxide selected from the group consisting of ethylene oxide, propylene oxide and butylene oxide bonded to oxygen atoms on said sugar rings and at least three acetoacetyl groups bonded to terminal oxygen atoms of said polymerized units of at least one alkylene oxide; and(b) from 40 to 80 wt % of a non-saccharide component comprising a polyol unit not containing a sugar ring and having a hydroxyl functionality from two to five; said polyol unit having polymerized units of at least one alkylene oxide selected from the group consisting of ethylene oxide, propylene oxide and butylene oxide bonded to hydroxyl oxygen atoms of the polyol and at least two acetoacetyl groups bonded to terminal oxygen atoms of said polymerized units of at least one alkylene oxide;wherein total polymerized units of at least one alkylene oxide comprise from 20 to 80 wt % of said multi-functional additive.

摘要: An aqueous polymer dispersion is composed of (i) an emulsion polymer having a weight average molecular weight of from 2,000 to 30,000 daltons, wherein the emulsion polymer comprises as polymerized units, based on the dry weight of the emulsion polymer, (a) from 10% to 90% by weight of an ethylenically unsaturated ionic monomer, (b) from 5% to 90% by weight of a photosensitive monomer, and (c) from 0 to 85% by weight of an ethylenically unsaturated nonionic monomer; and (ii) from 3.5% to 50% by weight of TEMPO and/or a derivative thereof, based on the total dry weight of the aqueous polymer dispersion. An aqueous coating composition comprising the aqueous polymer dispersion and a binder provides coatings with improved durability.
