    Abstract: According to various aspects and techniques to enable methods and systems for a first communication device to determine an approximate number of other communication devices that have lost contact with a host communication device. This includes determining a common future time window using a last known global time stamp and determining a transmit time within the common future time window. This also includes receiving samples that are captured during the common future time window on a predefined communication channel, as well as analyzing the received samples to estimate the total number of other communication devices.

    Abstract: This disclosure provides systems, methods and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on computer storage media for reliable communication between a source device, and two or more sink devices. In one aspect, a sink device closest in proximity to the source device can establish a wireless data transfer with the source device. In another aspect, the sink device having the more favorable radio channel conditions can establish a wireless data transfer with the source device. In some aspects, the sink devices can forward audio data received from the source device over a secondary communication link. The audio data can be forwarded to the other sink device automatically, or upon request from the other sink device. The secondary communication link can be implemented as a magnetic communication link, or as a Bluetooth communication link.

    Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for tampering detection in phase based ranging are described.
    A device may engage in two-tone phase based ranging. For example, the device may transmit a composite signal that includes a first carrier at a first frequency and a second carrier at a second frequency. The device may receive a third carrier at the first frequency and measure its phase. The device may determine a phase sum associated with the first frequency based on the measured phase of the third carrier and a measured phase of the first carrier. The device may compare the phase sum with a reference value and determine whether tampering with the phase based ranging has occurred based on the comparison.

    Abstract: Secure range estimates as described herein may include determining a range estimate between two Bluetooth enabled devices based, at least in part, on round trip phase measurements of wireless signals transmitted between the devices. In one example, a range estimate may include determining a first set of relative carrier measurements at a first set of frequencies, determining a second set of relative carrier measurements based on the first set at the second set of frequencies; and combining the first set and the second set to estimate a distance between the devices.
