Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure provide mechanisms for fast hyper frame number (HFN) resynchronization of Packet Data Convergence Protocol (PDCP) Protocol Data Units (PDUs). A wireless communication device (e.g., a PDCP entity at a wireless communication device) can calculate a current PDCP count of a current PDCP PDU of a plurality of PDCP PDUs received from a radio link control (RLC) sublayer based on a PDCP sequence number (SN) of the current PDCP PDU and an HFN of a first missing PDCP PDU after a successfully received PDCP PDU. The PDCP count may be calculated using the HFN of the first missing PDCP PDU in response to a gap between the PDCP count of the first missing PDCP PDU and the actual PDCP count of the current PDCP PDU being greater than a PDCP window size.

Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure relate to optimization of packet processing when packets are received out of order in sequence. For example, a user equipment (UE) may determine whether a difference between a sequence number of a first packet and a sequence number of a second packet received subsequent to receiving the first packet exceeds a sequence jump threshold. The UE may disregard the second packet from processing in response to at least determining that the difference is greater than the sequence jump threshold. The UE may receive and process a plurality of packets respectively associated with a plurality of sequence numbers that are greater than the sequence number of the first packet and less than the sequence number of the second packet.

The receiver device may receive a third packet of the plurality of packets at a third time, wherein the first packet, the second packet, and the third packet are received sequentially. The receiver device may provide a set of packets including the first packet, the third packet, and the second packet in order, to a higher layer in accordance with a timer that is shorter than a length of the reordering window.
