    摘要: Embodiments described herein take the form of a bistable hinge. The bistable hinge typically includes an elastic element and a pair of rigid structures. Each rigid structure in the illustrated embodiment includes a pair of pivot cylinders connected to a rotating surface, as well as a detent formed on a portion of the rotating surface. The elastic element is retained by the detent, such that the spring force of the elastic element, when stretched, is transmitted to the rigid structure. The rigid structure may incorporate any suitable protrusions, retainers, or the like around which the elastic element extends in lieu of the illustrated detents. As the elastic element is stretched during operation of the hinge, the elastic element maintains contact with the detents. Further, as the hinge transitions from a closed state to an open state, the detents stretch the elastic element, thereby applying tension to it.

    摘要: Embodiments described herein take the form of a fastener, such as a button, clasp, or the like, that magnetically attracts a button to an enclosure, thereby securely closing the fastener. In one example embodiment, the fastener includes a base and a ring. The ring defines an aperture and the base includes a button. The button can move perpendicularly to a surface of the base that abuts or otherwise engages the ring. The ring includes multiple magnets typically positioned within a body of the ring and, generally, at opposing positions along a circumference or perimeter of the ring. Similarly, a magnet is positioned within the button. As the ring approaches the base, the ring magnets attract the button magnet, drawing it into the ring and closing or securing the fastener. The button moves transversely to the polarization direction of the ring magnets (and button magnet) as the button extends.

    摘要: An orbiting relay assembly may be provided that has one or more switches. The switches may be provided with electrical contacts. An actuator such as an electromagnetic actuator may rotate guiding structures such as a rotating yoke about a rotational axis. The guiding structures may have portions that receive movable electrical coupling structures such as metal balls or cylinders. There may be multiple movable electrical coupling structures in a relay. The electrical coupling structures may be distributed radially outwards from the rotational axis, may be distributed circumferentially about the rotational axis, or may be distributed axially parallel to the rotational axis. The guiding structures may be configured to place the switches in one or more different operating states by moving the metal balls or other movable electrical coupling structures about the rotational axis.

    摘要: A computer keyboard includes a plurality of keys arranged in a pattern contained within a plane, a webbed structure defining openings for each of the keys, an illumination source, and one or more light pipes positioned along the webbed structure and arranged to deliver light from the illumination source to the keys, wherein each of the keys is illuminated thereby. Although the keys have the appearance of being backlit similar to traditional illuminated keyboards, the illumination source is actually located along at least one side of and within the same plane as the pattern of keys, rather than beneath the keys. The keyboard can thus be made thinner in such arrangements where the illumination source does not need to be located beneath the keys.

    摘要: A hinge has a pintle, a moving leaf, a resilient device and a stationary leaf. The pintle has a resilient device mount formed on a distal end and is mounted securely in the stationary leaf. The moving leaf is mounted rotatably around the pintle and has a barrel having a protruding limit formed on an outer end. Because the resilient device mount is formed on the pintle, it does not break easily and may slip to prevent terminal failure and be reset when closed. The protruding limit abuts the stationary leaf and ensures a gap is formed between the leaves for wires cabling or the like. Therefore the hinge has improved wear and longer lifespan.

    摘要: The three dimensional surface shape of a specular reflective object can be determined by examining a captured image reflected from the object. Flat specular reflective surfaces, e.g. a mirror, provide an undistorted reflected image, while curved surfaces reflect a distorted image altered by the surface shape. By analyzing one or more captured images of the distorted reflection, one can estimate the shape of the surface that caused the distortion. A captured distorted image can be compared to a reference undistorted image for which one knows some geometric properties. A system to capture and process such images can be assembled from a few components including a computer to generate and process the images, a display to project the image onto the reflective object, a digital camera to capture the reflected image and a positioning device on which to orient the components with respect to each other.

    摘要: A test apparatus configured to test connectors is provided. The test apparatus may include a fixture that holds a first connector and an actuator that holds a mating second connector. The actuator may axially displace the second connector in and out of engagement with the first connector. A compliance mechanism, which may be coupled to the fixture or the actuator, may provide one of the connectors with compliance in order to facilitate alignment of the connectors during engagement and disengagement thereof. The compliance mechanism may allow movement of one of the connectors perpendicularly to the actuation axis and/or angular movement about the actuation axis while preventing axial movement within the compliance mechanism. Accordingly, forces associated with engagement and disengagement of the connectors measured by a load cell may more closely resemble actual forces experienced by a user during use of the connectors.
